Cheers. ~k. Karl, It's wonderful. My only (slight) criticism is that I don't think she totally "nails" the great Chaconne in D minor. This recording, more than any other, turned me into a HIP enthusiast.

I really enjoy the Naxos releases of the Shostakovich film scores, particularly this, Odna (Alone), and New Babylon.
And the great Kozintsev Shakespeare fims, of course!

Big fan of Mompou.
Today, I am observing the holiday by (at last) converting the Sony Haydn Symphonies cube (Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Dennis Russell Davies) to soft copy for automotive consumption.
Cheers, ~k.

Listening to quite a bit of Hindemith this morning, somehow . . . the Scherzo for viola and cello (with the composer on the viola), the Sonata for four horns, the Concerto for Orchestra, Op.38, and the Symphonic Dances. Listened again to The Long Christmas Dinner, last night.
Cheers, ~k.

What's on the STEREO? Well, as far as I'M concerned, whatever I'm in the mood for at any particular time. And since the only classical music outlet here in the Detroit area is a public station that divides the day into "Classical days and Jazzy nights"( meaning that from 7:00am to 7:00pm they play classical music, and then switch to jazz until the next morning) And also since I'm the only one LEFT that still has a STEREO( everyone else opting for cheezy boxes with cheezier sounding "surround" systems, or else just listening to music on a variety of devices like "smartphones", pads and tablets) it also depends on the time of day. Luckily, I sometimes go to a collection of channels on my cable TV service called "Music Choice" that has a couple of channels that offer classical music, and that's one source for me to hear and learn of composers and works I've not heard before. When first getting "into" classical music, I used to have my car radio tuned to the now long defunct WQRS FM and listen to it on the way to and home from work. Dangerously furiously jotting down the names of recordings they played that I was interested in. I would also comb through the old LPs at a local thrift shop and pick up old LPs of classical works I wasn't familiar with in order to learn something new, and if I liked the recording, would search out a CD re-issue, and if I didn't, well, I was out only 50 cents, so no loss Whitefang
