The Texas Shuffle.
To me, one of the defining rhythms in blues (and jazz and country and...) is the Texas Shuffle. I believe it was T Bone Walker who first used this rhythm, but that is subject to correction by people more learned than myself. I know Jimmy Reed (or more accurately his guitar player - Eddie Taylor) popularized the rhythm in his "Bright Lights" and continued to be used by artists such as Albert King, Johnny Winter and of course Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I've finally gotten around to reading this thread (you were wondering, weren't you?). Thanks for it. There's fascinating stuff and enough material for a lifetime.
I don't know if the people who are in the thick of it would agree with me, but it seems the blues scene here in Houston is doing fine. We still have blues clubs like the Big Easy, Shakespeare Pub, Hideaway, Dan Electro's, and others. When the House of Blues opened here, they named their smaller room The Bronze Peacock.
