You've already seen my fiddle build, RC aircraft, and know about my love for fishing...what's your pastime? Besides those already mentioned, I dabble in knife making, powder horns, scrimshaw, and black powder guns among other things. What's your hobby? C'mon, share it with us!

Besides music stuff, Koa fish, reading - mainly mystery/suspense, history, architecture, antique and classic autos and trucks. I don't own a classic or antique auto but have a '95 Mustang that is getting there.

Lovely animal, Celeste...I'd love to learn to ride; once I "rode" a poor, drooping, dispirited old horse on a guided trip through one of Louisville's big city parks - and I suspect the only danger was the possibility of a crush injury if he died and fell over on me! I'm weird: I like to run really long distances. In the last couple years I've been training for and running ultramarathons, which are (largely) trail races that exceed the length of a conventional marathon (ie, 26 miles); standard distances in the sport are 50K (32 miles), 50 mile, 100k (63 miles), and 100 miles - though you can find just about any distance in between and some waaaay beyond. I've got a dozen or so 50Ks, a couple 60Ks, and a 50 miler (actually 57 miles) under my belt. Unfortunately, I've been sidelined with a pretty bad Achilles injury for the last 4-5 months , but I'm on the comeback trail (pun not originally intended) - though I'm hampered by some bad habits fostered during the lay-off /k

Riding a very old tame horse is probably a good idea. My horse can be a bit psycho. I wish that I were athletic enough to be a runner. I have to let my horse do the running.

Just love horses! My niece is a vet and one of the few good equine vets in our area. On another note, my sister-in-law had a horse (sadly passed away a year ago) who hated men with beards. Go figure? She was a trotter named Ellie and a real sweetheart. I had a mustache, but not a beard so I was 'tolerated' by her. She was my best buddy as long as I wasn't in the saddle. I had about ten minutes riding time in the saddle and then she'd walk me into a stand of alders, letting me know that my time was up. As soon as I'd dismount, she was my best buddy again, running around the coral and hunting for the apples she knew were in my pockets. I'd always get nuzzled and kissed, even after the apples were gone. Best horse I ever knew.

Apart from music, my other main pastime is reading. I love history and I am forever picking up a book on that subject. I have some favourite periods of history that I concentrate on-namely WW1 and WW2. Napoleonic wars, American Civil War, The Tudors, The Saxons (in England) and the Norman invasion on England. I also love vintage aeroplanes too- particularly WW1 & WW2 ( that started as a kid listening to my Dad's tales of being a boy during the Battle of Britain.

I also read a lot. I have been reading a bunch of classic literature lately. I bought a Kindle, and it has encouraged my reading because I can increase the size of the print. Why do they make print so small these days? Seems like it was larger once upon a time.

Now that would work down on Tunica Cutoff. Great brim fishing there at this time of the year. (If the river stays in check, but when it reaches a bit higher all bets are off.)

I've missed the simple joy of running daily for the last 15 months, but have now conquered both an inflamed/displaced SI joint and recuperation from surgical repair of the torn Achilles mentioned previously. The activity yields 2 major tangential benefits aside from physical training: the addition of time during which to focus on music through the ipod and reconnecting with nature. It's birthing season in the national park and I really must pick up a cheap little camera to stick in a pocket, though I'm unlikely to ever re-experience Sunday's encounter.
Expressly, while rounding a long, gradual bend, I witnessed a deer bound into the woods trailside. As I approached the specific spot she darted, I saw 2 fawns lying in the trail and my first thought was that they had just been born, because they did not move as a I slowly approached - being fearful that a protective doe may attack (?) But I saw no afterbirth and both were absolutely flawless with a deep burnished rust colored fur and bleach white spots. I resisted the strong desire to make physical contact, fearing rejection by the mother due to human scent (I don't even know if that's a legitimate concern, but the mere possibility broke my heart) plus, it occurred to me that they - like the mother - should learn to fear human contact (and doubly so here in Appalachia where they seem to start hunting in kindergarten)...so, as I began jogging away, one rose to its wobbly legs and began following in an unsteady trot - oh, but I so wanted to lean down and pet it or even pick it up! Anyway, better sense prevailed and I just turned my back and ran. I really wish I had head-on video of this little guy stumbling after me, it was really extraordinary! C'est la vie...kate
