I've made a start on a Sonata for Clarinet & Piano, for myself to play although I do not as yet have a pianist dedicated to the mad scheme. I attach an only-slightly-shrunk mp3 of the first half-minute, which was the state of the score as of last night.

Well, in this interval I have finished the first movement, and it is 9 and a half minutes of some of my best music yet, I think.
And I have made a start on the second movement, the slow (and apparently elegiac) movement: « Boulez est mort » (Wounding Silence)

This piece is more of a sonic experiment, than a composition per se. The raw material is a rehearsal, and the performance on Palm Sunday, of a handbell choir arrangement by Charles Turner of a tune from The Sacred Harp, "The Hebrew Children." I layered, pasted, repeated, applied the odd effect . . . on one hand, I am sure I should do things better, more artistically; on the other, as it is, I find listening to it is an exercise in relaxation, and I am disinclined to tamper with it at all.

I may have shared this before . . . but I'm listening to it again, myself, this morning, and I do think it a particularly good piece.

Okay, I have also finished the 12-minute piece for double wind quintet, The Young Lady Holding a Phone in Her Teeth, Op.130 for Kammerwerke of Lexington, Mass. The piece will be performed on their Winter 2017 program; we read it all together at their 21 July rehearsal, the composer conducting:
