Today is the deadline for submissions to a call for scores by a chamber group in Providence, Verdant Vibes. When I went online to submit a slightly re-scored version of Things Like Bliss (to comply with the group's array of instruments), I learnt that I can submit up to three pieces ... so this is a MIDI demo of another piece which I submitted:

So, even though there is no immediate prospect for such a piece, I have decided to start work on Symphony #1. More chat on this later, but here is the start:
Symphony no 1 mvt I.mp3 (267.42 KB)

Back in June, I promised Olivia Kieffer a new piece for percussion solo (various wooden objects to thwack) and fixed media. About a week ago, I finished preparing the fixed media:

On Monday, 28 November at 12:00 noon (Eastern) Gandalf ("None shall pass who have not rehearsed properly") will interview me (Karl Henning) on WJFF 90.5FM Radio in Jeffersonville, New York. The interview, which will include generous excerpts of Henningmusick, will live-stream at www.wjffradio.org/ . . . so there is no geographic barrier to listening in.
I affirm that no journalists have leaked any of the interview questions to me, as yet.
Cheers, ~k.

I feel thrilled that I have (I feel) succeeded in writing the piece as good as I had wished. When it may be performed and by whom are still huge unknowns, but I feel it is a cracking strong piece. It's only MIDI, of course, but this is the last movement:
