sitting in this little eatery in Vinton (little town near me) last night and across the street is DR Music Store. I noticed they were a Peavey dealer so I though a discussion of the brand might be good. I visited their home page and it seems they have some good amp selections if you pass by all the modeling amps they seen to promote. I was particularly enamored with the 30W 1x12 Tweed tube amp. My SIL has a little Peavey that sounds good both clean and distorted. But I have never really played through it seriously. I know absolutely nothing about their guitar offering but their website has a nice looking Tele wannabe. Ok, while the prices seem to be in the middle range, not outrageous but not cheap, are they a good buy? Read more: guitarplayersforum.boards.net/thread/716/peavey#ixzz5e29Gqg6l

I saw that episode and feel the same. Any time US jobs are lost I tend to turn aside from that business.
That said, I have used several Peavey amps back in the day. The Classic 30 was a pretty nice amp especially if one plugged in a 4x10 cabinet to it. I used that setup for harp once or twice and it did a decent job. Sounded good with guitar as well. I bought a Classic 50 4x10 model for harp but the rectifier was solid state and could not be modded to make it more harp mic friendly. I used a later model Delta Blues 2x10 that worked actually very well for harp with one pre amp tube swap to cut gain a bit. It also drove a 4x8 cab nicely. Not as much bottom end as I wanted but over all a good amp. A former boss used and still uses a Delta Blues 1x12 model, 30 watt, for guitar work. Sounds great.
Part of how an amp sounds is the stuff plugged into it. Part is also who's playing.

Of the PV amps. the Classic 30 112 and the Delta Series 2x10 and 1x15 are my favorites. The Classic 30 is very compact considering the amount of sound at 30 watts RMS. Both the Classic and Delta share the same power amp and pre-amp but the Delta series additionally includes tremolo. All use 4 - EL84 power tubes and 12AX7 preamp and phase inverter tubes. Both have a channel or pre-amp switching. I have a Delta 2x10 and like it very much although it doesn't get a lot of use as 9 amps here are in the rotation. They did have another series called Valve King which are nice amps but not accepted well in the market place. I had a VK 20 and a great amp for my tastes. I did sell it as trying to slim down the amps and it was the nicest like new condition. It is a 2 - EL84 combo. It is still basically available as a head only as the Classic 20 MH. Solid State wise their longtime Trans-Tube series like the Bandit are still among the best sounding ones out there. These are excellent used values and option for someone not wanting a tube amp. I have seen professional players using these live and sounding very good. I copied this over my post on the Guitar Player forum.

The first amp we got Jolene way back when- about 14 years ago- was a 2 channel Ecoustic model. One side was for instrument, one was for vocal mic. SS I believe and we got it for a deal used. Worked well but ultimately she fell in love with my Silvertone 1482 so we got her one and swapped the Peavey for a small p.a. The Ecoustic had eq sliders built on which was nice.
