So as you know Jo took a fall some 5 weeks ago on a beach near here and that resulted in a lumbar fracture. After several weeks we had been referred to a neurosurgeon and we visited with him a week ago. After looking over the xrays old and new and doing some motion and strength tests on Jo he cleared her to play guitar if she felt up to it. The healing process on this is expected to take maybe 2 more months, maybe less. Meanwhile she gets to wear her brace, she's drinking a lot of milk, we got her an ergonomic chair and another one on the way- one for computer and one for general sitting, both with good back support- and we're scheduled to see a doc about getting treated for osteoporosis. Which that's a pretty big deal to guard against future injuries.
But the cool news is, besides walking some every day, she's playing a song or two every day as well! For 3 weeks there was no music here. I didn't want to tease her by playing anything on YouTube or anything, she felt bad enough. So her picking up the guitar again, even just a bit, is really fine. As long as she sits upright when she plays it's a go.

jbone. Sounds like you and Jo are recovering. You have my best wishes and prayers for everything. I have read where you plan on staying there in the Carolinas for the summer. I hope you find a great place to entertain the people. You both along with the residents of the Wilmington NC area need the music in their lives.
Good Luck old friend!

James that's still back burner. We have a lot to work on before it's even close. The material is mostly there but healing and travel and getting back into a groove come first. The good news is she's doing 4 songs a day this week, adding a song every week.
We are optimistic that she'll be healed well enough to travel in about 3 weeks so I'm looking for a workamp opportunity up north for the summer. It's going to get too hot here in a month or two. I'm working way too hard here by the way. My old friends the Itis bros are around a lot. Arth and Burs. Fingers crossed!

A month on and we've been mobile some. Shortly headed to NY for summer. We've been doing 5 to 7 songs a day lately! Once we get settled and more time goes by- and Jo gains back some stamina- we'll see about some gigs near the Catskill Mountains.

I know you and Jo will be back in the saddle soon, making a great new CD. And knocking em dead in the Catskills.
Wish we could have made contact since you were so close by but next trip. I hope I'm over this bug that has me hospitalized.

Me too Jim. We both really needed this rest and having our home behind us is a bit of a complication. When it's close to heading south time I'll locate a campground near you and plan a day or two layover.

We came up to NY state and are now at our second park in a week. The first was so far out there was no phone signal. Wifi was off more than on. We had to drive 15 minutes to get a signal on the phone! Which is all nice if you want to totally escape. In our case we like to stay connected. That place got just 5 tv channels, all pretty much worthless. No cable. No internet. So yesterday we moved to a park on a hilltop! While I'm not working for rent here we are looking for gigs and I'm headed to the temp agencies today in Binghamton NY to get the ball rolling so we can pay for a site and still make a few $$. This worked in Tulsa.
Jo is up to a full 45 minute set. We're eyeing a local farmers market.

We got the slide guitar- a Regal parlor box- out the past 2 days. First day was a bit rough but yesterday Jo conquered the one song that gave trouble before. We're going to get a new stick on pickup for that one.
Other news, we did lock a date with a farmers market! However, I think we'll be moving on before that date. I'm looking at a part time job in Vermont at a resort starting late this month. Prayers please!

I got a call today, I got the job in Vermont! It's on Lake Champlain, on an island at a resort there. We'll be staying put for 3 months. I'll work a few days a week and otherwise we'll sight see and look for gigs. Montreal is 90 minutes north, the Adirondacks are not far, Green Mountains to the east, and the horses will await at Saratoga Springs to the south. Not to mention the lake has some great fishing!
Every practice Jo gets a bit stronger. Her chops are as good as ever.

We took the drive today from Binghamton area, about 6 hours. Came up the east side of the Adirondack Mountains and it was beautiful. Ferry across the lake at Plattsburg and here we are! Looks good so far.
RE: Jo's progress. She discovered that the small parlor guitar she's used for slide for years is not going to work for her any more so she's passed it on to me, sort of like giving a monkey an ice pick in a condom factory, but we'll see. I had a square neck Regal a couple of years ago I was fooling with and looking to do some lap slide on. This one is a round neck but I'm going to give it a whirl. We took her Trutone arch top to a tech Friday evening and had the action raised and she retuned it to open and tried some slide on it. Seems to suit her better.
We went looking at Strats yesterday at a shop. She stumbled onto a new made in China Lyon guitar, 2 pickups and 3 way switch, and she nearly bought it. New guitar, $70. It had a short on one pickup though so she set it down. There may be a Strat in her future. She had a nice one a few years back and let it go in hard times.

So we've been in place here for 2 weeks, about 20 miles north of Burlington Vermont. I'm working part time at a resort for a site. Nice place, good folks I'm working with! Weather hotter than expected, mid 80's and humid but at least it's not Alaska's 90's! We've had some time to explore Burlington but not enough yet, and also towns closer by. Just up the road is South Hero, Vt., named for the Allen Brothers- Ethan and Nathaniel among others, who were awarded lands here after the Revolutionary War. In South Hero are a couple of joints, one we've talked to and one not yet. Also a farmers market we may get a shot to play at one Saturday morning. Very soon after we arrived I sent out several IMs to bars and pubs around Burlington on the off chance that I'd get an answer. Yesterday social media paid off! We were hired over the IM! Smitty's PubI hope to head down and get a look at the venue in a day or so after the weekend. Likely we'll need the amps and all. It's such a great feeling to be hired to play music! Jo will be putting a couple of sets together and we'll be going over material for the gig during the week. Lucky I have Fridays and Saturdays off so I can rest before the event. Back on deck Sunday for 6 hours.
