This isn't about "Cover" songs(which was no doubt done lots before), but the ORIGINALS of songs that saw new life when later covered by someone else, or FINALLY got famous after a more successful "cover". I'll try kicking it off with a few. and JUST the "original", you guys having to recollect the "cover" that became more well known(shouldn't be hard).---- 1. And you don't hear any vocal until the 1:20 mark..... And how 'bout THIS often "American Idol" favorite? .... and this time, no vocal until 1:16 or so... And the first of many.......... Whitefang

Thanks anyway, Scorpio, but the IDEA was..... NOT the covers, but rather the songs that were COVERED. The ORIGINALS! And incidentally...... JOHN D. LOUDERMILK'S "Tobacco Road" has been "covered" (at last count) nearly 200 times! There's a legend that it was also "covered" by The Jackson 5 for a demo tape in efforts to get a recording contract(before MOTOWN got the break!) but no tape is known to exist anywhere, and it's believed it was either lost to the ages, or didn't exist to begin with. And here's two more originals of a couple of favorite "covers"........ And it's 1959 for this one... And..... Covered by The Searchers and DION respectively Whitefang

I'm surprised I'm (it seems) the only one coming up with these. Guess I listen too hard..... Now, HERE'S the original of a tune that was a hit for Willie Mabon, but the "cover" didn't do as well because it wasn't released as a single, but was part of the live recorded set of The BLUES BROTHERS... Instrumentals too, got covered now and then. For instance, THIS one, which for years many thought WAS an original by THE VENTURES, was actually a "cover" From 1954------- The Ventures also covered this.... You'll have to FF to the 4:30 mark----- Whitefang
