With Jim no longer around I wanted to canvas opinion on whether people would like this forum to continue and, if so, what shape it should take?

I think it would honor his memory if we did our best to keep this, and his other forum endeavors going. Might even consider changing it's name to "Jim's Music Room" or something on that order.... Whitefang

What other forums did he have? I can only think of the Guitar one.

It would be great to keep both forums intact. Perhaps though, if wanted or more practical to maintain, the Guitar forum could be merged into this forum.

I'm not a guitar guy but I respect that our founder was. I'd have no worries with the two being merged. Jim was kind enough to invite me here many moons ago, and I've seen the changes over the years. Jim tried to have a very well rounded outfit that would appeal to a lot of users. I tried to recruit some harp guys to hang out here but obviously had little success. Still, I have found this forum to be a good place to hang. I have had plenty of good interactions with the denizens here and not just about harp. My musical aspirations especially with Jolene have found some good emotional support and the strength of others' experiences here.
With the current lifestyle- never sure where or how long we'll be staying- and the fixed income we have, I have to say I can't do more than I have been doing here. But if y'all want to keep this going I will commit to keeping my pretty much daily visits and frequent posts and back-and-forth at about the same level. I've had a lot of good and meaningful dialogue and maybe even have given some new insights as well. I'm glad to continue with you folks and I count at least some of you as friends, others as probable friends, and all as peers in one way or another.
I await developments.

I'm not opposed to a merge, but I'm not involved with the other forum. If the admins there wanted to do such a thing, would someone be able to put them in touch with me?

This place does seem to be "forum central" as it has several pages( "rooms" if you will) covering a multitude of topics. Kind of reminds me of a MALL( from when people actually got off their butts and went shopping). Along with that other forum we should consider putting in a fountain or an OLGA'S! Whitefang

Okay, We will see how it goes. There are only a handful of persons active on there including myself. There was also often duplification of very same thread topics in the past both here and on there.

It’s been a month, how do you guys think it has been going? I know the GP alternate shut down the other day. We could set up a forum at the new MPN that could cover the areas we have here, and have a potentially larger community and audience, as well as integration with the other subjects already over there. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? So far I am in for whatever the consensus is. I really do not look at the other MPN forums, only Guitar Player. But whatever happens, I will stick here as well if it keeps running. If you decide to shut this one down and open over there at MPN I will attend. Or you can consolidate the Message, Music and Instrument "rooms" which would be OK with me. Whatever the consensus is.

I am a follower here. But an extrovert. I'd migrate via a new link if the members here did.

Sorry, MPN is the newly revived Music Players Network, home of such fora as Keyboard Corner, Guitar Player, Bass Player, Drum Talk (these were based off magazines at one point but are now fully independent as are the whole MPN), Craig Anderton's Studio, Sound, and Stage (SSS for short), The Big Picture (Photography), fora about recording tools and techniques, and several others. Check it out at musicplayernetwork.comIf there's interest, we can decide if there are already areas that cover what's here, or if we need some new fora there for these.
