What I mean( and this is a "retread" of an earlier long ago thread from somewhere else....) Everybody's familiar with that old "field trip" song( as I call it) "99 bottles of beer". But didja also notice there are TWO versions of it? 1. "99 bottles of beer on the wall...99 bottles of beer. If one of those bottles should happen to fall,,, 98 bottles of beer on the wall!"(and etc.). 2. "99 bottles of beer on the wall...99 bottles of beer. Take one down and pass it around, 98 bottles of beer on the wall!" (etc.) So, WHICH was first? OR the "correct" one( "original", if you will...) ? Kinda the same thing with "For he's a jolly good fellow" which has one version going... "Which nobody can deny!" and another that goes... "And so say all of us!" (note: When I was REAL little, I thought they were singing, "Which nobody CANDY NIGH." Which puzzled me as to WHAT that meant! ) Why the differences? And which came first for either? And is it regional or generational or what? MY question is( in the case of "99 bottles of beer")--- If there's 99 bottles of beer, WHY take ONE down and pass it around? NEVER made any f***in' sense to me! There any more of these types of things any of you know of? Whitefang

I guess those are technically( in the "split hair" area...) fitting tunes. But my original concern were for old familiar tunes in the public domain( like "99 bottles of beer" and "For he's a jolly good fellow") . And... MY guess is that the word change in the Boone "Tutti Frutti" was probably some label suit's attempt to make it sound more "white". Anyway.... The opening drum work in all 3 "Dead" examples reminded me of THIS( but no connection to the subject at hand... ) And unfortunately, YouTube didn't have a decent clip of the studio track. Whitefang

And too, I grew up hearing and singing;
"Itsy-Bitsy spider went up the garden spout"(etc.)
Some folks I know(from elsewhere in the U.S.) said the one THEY grew up with went----;
"Eensee-weensee spider...(etc.)" and others had; "IN-see WIN-see", and a few said it was, "TEEN-see, Ween-see".
And too, some said "out came the sun and dried the spider out"...while others claim it's, "Out came the sun and dried up all the rain."
Heh....... Whitefang

Talking this topic over with a neighbor, he mentioned( and note, it's not common...I don't think ) HE said, "Y'know....for YEARS I thought the kids at my school were singing, 'London BRITCHES falling down'!" Whitefang
