And of course, the blues wasn't always about the guitar, sax or harmonica. Whitefang

Y'know, Jackie was never really known as a blues singer, but he did have the chops. Whitefang

Never heard that one before Fangster. Of course as a nineteen fifties teenager, I knew of Jackie Wilson because of all the play on Bandstand, and the radio stations, as well as on our jukeboxes in our hangouts.

We're still proud of him 'round these parts. "Doggin' Around" hit #1 on the R&B charts in 1960, and probably only found air time on what were then called "race" stations. Surprised a street corner Doo-Wop crooner wouldn't be familiar with it. But then y'all were probably busy working out all those CLOVERS charts, eh? And too, though not a typical blues, this is also a long time favorite of mine by Jackie. (and too also played mostly on WCHB am; The local "race" station).... Whitefang

Heh! "Rock Me Baby" was usually the earliest blues tune kids back in the late '60's learned. So, tell me----- Are you working on B.B.'s version, or what would be more likely in your case....? Whitefang

Starting with the BB version, but Jo will do a less prominent guitar part and I will try to emulate BB's classic riff on harp. I'll sing.
Kind of similarly, on the Elmore James song she won't be doing slide since we need to find her a new guitar to set up for dedicated slide work. Instead, she will do a basic chord progression and I'll mimic the slide stuff on harp.
These are two songs I've loved for decades. Now I get to sing and do harp on them!

Good luck, but I just figured since you do play harp, the Slim Harpo version would better suit your style. And I, like a lot of other young, eager white kids who dug blues(and still do) back in '67-'68 learned "Rock me Baby" before moving on to more deep rooted blues. You know, like some Muddy or T-Bone and other older stuff, like some '50's B.B. and Wynonie Harris. A band I was in got a kick out of doing this old Harris tune--- Whitefang
