I've read some rather negative comments on this release. Some feeling there wasn't any real chemistry going on here. I don't really agree with this assesement. I enjoy that Getz whom I've come to a greater appreciation of late, really adds something to this date. Nothing against Bill and his trio performances, but this is a nice departure. Elvin Jones is also behind the drumkit on this session which was recorded in 1964. Good stuff.

Kenny Barron - Other Places I would also like to add, I very much enjoy the chemistry between Barron and Bobby Hutcherson. Ralph Moore also on this session. It doesn't hurt.

Jimmy Knepper - Dream Dancing How is this one, Tom? I've never heard it, but I like Knepper and that rhythm section lineup looks ready to burn.

Not necessarily a real burner of an album, just good straight ahead playing especially from Knepper. As you stated, the rhythm section is notable. I'm also a big fan of Ralph Moore to begin with. What ever happened to Ralph Moore? No one seems to know?

Thanks, Tom. I'll have to check it out. Good question about Ralph Moore. Is he not playing in the Jay Leno Tonight Show band any more?

I know a person who runs a music label and did session work with Ralph in the past and he knows nothing of Ralph's recent activities. Kind of a shame since Ralph is a talented player.

When thinking of great alto players, Sonny Criss may not immediately spring to mind. He definitely was underrated and this is certainly one of his better sessions. I would also recommend his "Complete Imperial Sessions" 2 cd release which is some of his earlier dates from the mid 50's. Both are highly recommended.
