On Gibson vs. Fender - pretty much a coin flip. I tend to pickup a Tele more often at home during the week but Les Pauls or Strats more on weekends. Love em all. Back when helping friend with recording demos week days would bring a different guitar each time. Made it more fun and added interest.

Well to be honest having played a KAY till about 8 or so n then getting my FIRST TELE a 56 used for about 150.00
Then I moved onto the TELE CUSTOM ...not the bound CUSTOM but the CUSTOM that KEEF plays in the STONES
But then in 73 the DELUXE THINLINE came out....TWIN HUMBUCKERS..... WOW I was taken over by the power the range and outstanding harmonics.
Soon after NAMn I bought a 69 LES PAUL CUSTOM,,, got a hold of some PEAVEY CLASSIC 50's and was set for RAW blues n ROCK..... but something was missing. Loving the sound of a good guitar n amp was what I wanted so my next purchase was a 57 LP JR and I was BACK IN LOVE WITH SINGLE COILS.
Then I got my first 335.... OH GOD what have you been keeping from me especially if you wire them 50;s style and upgrade the capacitor.
Sadly I thought I LOVE P-13 and P-90 and P-100;s so they must sound great in a hollow body ..WRONG @!!!!!
Sure they sounded great if you played through a 5 watt amp and were 50 feet from the amp and any other gear.....They were WORSE than a BYRDLAND as far as feedback, cotton balls, pieces of t-shirt... anything just STOP SCREAMIN AT ME....I was able to gt rid of a lot of it with P-100;s but IMO thought they sound great they are NO P-90 or 13
Soon it was a FIREBIRD with P-90;s a SG SPECIAL with P-90;s and LES PAUL SPECIAL in 1960 with twin P-90's/
I found my sound in the P-13 and P-90;s and though P-13 are hard to find they are available...I got one a few weeks ago still in cosmoline wax wrapped paper.
SO my answer is NEITHER as there are time I can only get what I want though a certain TELE BUT honestly there re WAY more times it is a GIBSON that fit me or my newer style than anything.
There aer times that MY NATIONAL RESONATOR is it or an EASTWOOD AIRLINE...... I think NO GUITARIST should disregard any new ax as that may be the one that unlocks YOU......
SO tillya find that perfect sound keep checking em out..the easy part is FIND THE RIGHT AMP./// for me it is 3- amps 1..FENDER DELUXE REVERB 1965 2..FENDER PRINCETON REVERB 1965 3...FENDER VIBROLUX' 1965 4...Fender VIBRO CHAMP 1965 5...AMPEG REVERB ROCKET....1963 6 AMPEG GEMINI ll........1964 or 5 7 MARSHALL BLUESBREAKER 1966 18 watter 8...FENDER EXCELSIOR.....2013 a GREAT BUY sounds like a late 50 TWEED DELUXE 15 watter. 9 MARSHALL CLASS 5 I have both the limited Edition singed by JIM MARSHALL just prior to his passsing and then I grabbed a CLASS 5 HEAD and modified it....
I think each player has many tones in him, the trick is to find the amp that fits the tone.
When playing TELES I used PEAVEY CLASSIC 50's...2 looped together with 2 4x10 extension cabs.....
AS soon as I got into GIBSON:LS I was turned onto the TWIN REVERB and from that day I bought every Vintage FENDER amp I could afford. DO NOT EVER go shopping when ya have G..A>S.....you'll usually find something when youl;re not looking....
ALso the build your own kits and CARVIN GUITARS are making a BIG MOVE forward so are newer brand like EASTWOOD, AIRLINE, GUILD, HAGSTROM and many brand though to be forgotten....
DO not limit yourself.... it ya pick up n ax and like it plug it into the ampo you have at home n see is it close if so take it hi=ome YOU HAVE 30 DAYS to bringit back and run it through your personal test....
KEEPING an open mind is what got me to buy the RESONATOR and my recent ACOUSTIC PURCHASE.....
They all have there places
ST james
PRETTY MUCH A GIBSON GUITAR WITH A BLACK FACE FENDER AMP !!!!!!!

Pretty even here between the 2 brands but guitar wise more apt to use Telecaster but in reality pretty slight. I play both quite a bit.
