Just started. Couldn't get into this at all. Stopped reading after 150 pages.

Undemanding, minimal character involvement. Just finished. I'll be charitable and say that there is no accounting for taste. Needless to say I won't waste my time with anymore of Ms Abbott's efforts.

Having called Memphis my home for many years and I'm acutely aware of the legacy of longtime Memphis Mayor - Boss Crump, I am just starting this: I'll have to tell a story that was told back in the 50's about Boss Crump. It seems that when Mr. Crump decided he no longer wanted to be active as Mayor, he selected his successor and let it be known that he expected this candidate to win. Well, come election day as the votes came in, the election was really close. But when the votes were finally released, the one running against Mr. Crump's candidate noticed that his own home precinct had no votes for himself. Knowing he voted for himself, he smelled a rat. So he ask for a recount. The judge ordered all the ballot boxes stored in the Courthouse for the night. Come next morning, they brought out the ballot boxes to be opened for the recount, but strangely enough the boxes were empty. Seems the courthouse people who were Crump employees had emptied the ballot boxes. When the Judge enquired as to why the ballots weren't there, the courthouse officials responded, "well sir, you ordered the ballot boxes stored, but we didn't think we had room for the boxes and the ballots, so we threw the ballots away. After all, you ordered the boxes stored didn't you?" More Information

I was very impressed by Anything Is Possible, which is the sequel to this. Wish I'd read them in the correct order.

Interesting and informative. It got bogged down towards the end. I like reading at a brisk pace but found my concentration wavering in the labyrinth of detail.

Kinuta, if nothing else, you have given me a reading list to last a few months. Thanks.

Kinuta, if nothing else, you have given me a reading list to last a few months. Thanks. Cheers. I'll Be Gone In The Dark is worth your while. Her writing style is elegant and absorbing. It has the same compulsive, evidence chasing mood as David Fincher's ' Zodiac '.
