Used to be anything from Glenfiddick single malt to 5 star champagne, down to the crap I tried to brew in the closet. Been a few years now since I had a drink and the world is a better place for it. I do have a taste for good coffee these days! Yes, Starbucks live at my house. I sorely miss French Market coffee with chikory, but since Katrina and Rita visited Louisiana, Texas, and Alabams's coasts and wetlands, chikory seems to have disappeared. Funny how things change! Chickory used to be the "poor man's coffee" and now it's a "boutique" coffee or part of a premium custom-blend. Same with moonshine. You can pick up a medium-priced whiskey in a liquor store cheaper than good 'shine.

Dadfad (John), I loved your post. Reminds me of the old days when a lot of us had our own "recipe". I remember making some great blackberry brandy. Just ferment the blackberry juice into a fairly good wine and then distill the spirits. Smooth and with a great little kick. Jim, that reminds me of a few runs back. An old shine-guy had told me "Toss a peach or plum pit or two in your mash. Just the pits. I'll smooth it out even more." So I did, two plum pits in five-gallons of mash. I couldn't tell any difference in it at all, but when an old bluesman and "shine-connoiseur" named Nat Reese tried a snort, he smacked his lips together a few times (like a wine-snob at a tasting!) and said "Mmmm... Got some plum in there. Tastes goooood!" Now that was a discriminationg palate!

I am rather fond of single Malt and I particularly like those from Islay. I am also partial to proper English ales and I have a rather nice shop in town that sells different beers from week to week and I do indulge if I have a weekend off gigging. Apart from that, tea is my other choice of refreshment.
