I can't find a thread for tv documentaries so here goes. Wild Wild Country HBO 'Amazing' is an often abused word. It has morphed into a catchall for something that is very good or impressive. Well this documentary is amazing in the old fashioned meaning of the word. Anyone with even a passing interest in the greatest con man ever to emerge from the packed ranks of holy men should consider this essential viewing. File in the library next to Going Clear.

Hostiles - Scott Cooper (2017) Sombre, dark and violent. Impressive.

Red Sparrow - Francis Lawrence (2018) Unremittingly grim tale of Ms Lawrence as a Russian femme fatale type spy. Peppered with pointless cameos by famous thespians who can't do much to elevate the tone of the film. Atomic Blonde has no competition.

I don't remember it very well, but I like Tom Hiddleston and thought he was good in it.

I don't remember it very well, but I like Tom Hiddleston and thought he was good in it. Yes Joe, he did as good as possible. I remember Hank personally and I don't know anyone who would be able to handle Hank's vocals. It wasn't so much the pure melodies, it was an emotional connection that was hard to emulate. And some of the little incidents that the writers put in for color took away from the real deal. I think the Faron Young incident was totally out of place and Hank's relationship with Ray Price was too milque toast.

Douglas Sirk double bill. Both featuring Barbara Stanwyck. The trashy posters don't do these two fine films any favours. All I Desire - 1950 There's Always Tomorrow - 1955

Every now and then you need to watch a "feel-good" movie. Ryan O'Neal does a good job of portraying a typical depression con-man. This movie also introduced Ryan's daughter Tatum.
