Total different league of playing. He's a learned musician. I'm a gut player.

Total different league of playing. He's a learned musician. I'm a gut player. That reminded me of an old line of '40's era(and earlier) comic FRED ALLEN, a show business "nemesis" of JACK BENNY....... "Jack plays the fiddle like the strings are still in the cat!" You know, based on the idea that violin strings were made out of something called "Catgut". Don't know if feline intestines were ever really used in the making of them, but also a comic rag on Benny's schtick of being a rotten violin player, which he really wasn't. And now too, we can add another body part to the musical lexicon..... Like, "He knows the song by heart, even though he really plays by ear, and could be called a gut player!" Whitefang

Not to mention clothing as in, "I fly by the seat of my PANTS when I play!"

I don't know but he's one helluva west coast swing player. I've seen him several times over the years and he's always had a top notch band and great material. He connects very well with his audience because he's having a great time and he knows who keeps him in harmonicas. A great talent.

Snooky was a very early- 40's- electrified player. I never saw him but he was on a harp heroes collection or two I used to have on LP. His son Rip Lee can be found at King Biscuit Blues Fest, doing his own thing just off Cherry Street. He has an RV he parks there and sets up a p.a., plays guitar, sings, plays harp for tips. He's pretty dang good too!

Well, I was impressed. I might look into finding a few(if they exist) CD reissues of Snooky's work. Whitefang

Bob is a good player and a nice guy. We met him some years ago at a King Biscuit. He has a club in Phoenix we would like to visit one day. He happened upon us when we were playing a set on Cherry Street. He's worked with a few good blues guys most notably Henry Gray.

Sounds like a good musician. And by that I mean in the way my friend(a musician and music instructor)defined it. "A good musician isn't judged only by how good he plays, but also by how well he relates to other musicians and how warm he treats his audience." Whitefang
