Same to ya DBM and all. Non traditional here. We just got an outdoor oven last week and we're doing boneless ribs in it today. I know, oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp. This travel trailer did not come with an oven and they are pretty terrible in the RV world, so we came loose of some cash and ordered a free standing one. I did a small pizza the other day and it came out pretty good for first attempt. We'll have asparagus tips and potatoes too. Going to a pot luck later and I may find a piece of pie. And possibly play a song or two with some of the folks here. I'm in battle with some form of crud I picked up last weekend so glad for cold remedies.

Any of you get mixed up in the "Black Friday" insanity? Or do y'all have better sense? In the early days of our relationship my wife would go out there with a few of her sisters. But she was never able to talk me into going. And after a while it started getting so insane out there that she quit going too. I don't shop online either. Given all the identity theft that's reported and the goings on about election day "hacking", I'm not too likely to throw too much of my finance and banking info out into "cyberspace". Despite my now physical difficulties and health issues, I do as much as I can in going from store to store during "normal" periods to find something specific. You know, make it more personal. The closest I come to online shopping is catalog shopping, which is where I usually find stuff I can't in any stores I patronize. And those companies send me a bill, so no bank info goes out into the air. I'm also one of the few in my family that still sends Christmas cards. Hell, I've got a ton of cards, given to me by various charities that mail me a dozen or so at a time in an attempt to guilt me into sending them a donation. They call them a "free gift", but then, if I send any money, the "gift" is no longer "free", is it? A lot of people for some reason have given up the practice. I don't understand it. I mean, how HARD is it to sign your name to a card, stick a stamp on an envelope and drop it in a mailbox? Some give lame excuses like, "Postage is SO expensive!" Ah, BOLLOCKS! A book of 20 stamps costs far less than that "smartphone" you insist on constantly staring at and far less than the monthly bill for that phone's service. And do some people actually believe that nothing says you care more than a FACEBOOK POST? OK. Curmudgeon period over. Whitefang

No. Not being much of a shopper in the first place it's a form of insanity to go out when the pros are cruising with sharpened blades and a glint in their beady eyes.
However, last Thursday was a different sort of day. I'd been down with a bug all week and Jo was under the weather herself, so we didn't do much grocery shopping all week. Thursday we both felt ok enough to venture out. Nearest Wally world is about 25 miles away and we needed just a few things, mostly cold remedies etc. Off we went. It was about 5 p.m. and Black Thursday had not kicked in just yet. It was not too crowded but once we'd found our items we were put through a huge maze to get to the self check area. About then it dawned on me that the management there was making an effort to keep the coming mob from running rough shod over the whole store. For once I think they did something right. So we got in and out unscathed.
We do shop online. Usually better deals to be had and the exact item you want. We've had very little fraud type activity in the dozen years we've been on line. One was an Ebay hustle where someone hijacked our account and tried to run a scam on someone else, which we put a stop to very quickly. And a few years ago someone with an online vendor tried to slip a few bucks extra onto a purchase we made, kind of a probe to see if we'd catch it. We did. If we hadn't they would have taken a bigger bite, or several, and wiped us out. Other than those two things it's been functional. I like Jo to pick exactly what she wants and online is a good way to go.
Since we're not fixed in place for long these days I hesitate to send out a lot of stuff. Because after we leave I don't want a park or resort to have to mess with mail from a former worker.
Jo's birthday is in a bit under 2 weeks. She's already got her presents ordered and several have arrived already. We ordered our Christmas present already and it's here, a new outdoor propane oven. I'm learning to cook with it which is different than a usual household unit.
For harmonicas it makes much better sense to buy online. I have a vendor who has been 100% excellent for several years now. Prices competitive but above all, choice of brand, and model, and support parts has been spot on all the way.
By and large, vendors know they must keep your information secure or they won't have any online business.

I ain't playin the black Friday game either. I shop for what I want whenever I want, and I pay the going price. No big deal. However I do shop online all the time. I have my discover card lookin out for my financial well being They check it several times a month. I shop only with credit cards, so if someone hacks into that card I do not have to pay.

Good idea, if you don't mind paying up to 22% higher than the retail. I only buy very few items, like DVDs or CDs online, but then too, usually on Amazon which already has my info with some kind of account. But that's for a bankcard, which pays for the item in full sending me no bill with a finance charge added to the cost. I got jacked up by credit cards( worst mistake I ever made) so after I paid the last one off five years ago, haven't had one since. And BTW----- I've never considered buying my own birthday presents. I'd feel funny and a bit avaricious. Whitefang

She has much better taste than I do! She picks better clothes for me even. I have a few gig outfits in the closet-and some dang fine boots for the stage- ready to go, and she just picked out several high end tee shirts on sale from Macy's for over 1/2 off. Still a bit spendy with shipping but good quality. Rather than fight with the mad crowds at Wally World or go to the nearest Macy's and hope they have some left. Order placed and paid. Stuff in the mail next week.

Crowds in stores ain't bad since a lot of folks are tap, tap, tapping and calling it "shopping". Whitefang

In McAllen Texas shoppers have spent over a BILLION dollars this season. Just going to the grocery store was an odyssey. Maybe that's an exception.

The place I do my grocery shopping(Meijer's) is always crowded, holiday or not, except past 10:00pm. 24 hour place it picks up again 'round 8:00am or so. But groceries only takes up half of the store's space, and some savvy shoppers do wait till the wee hours to do some Christmas shopping. The advantage I guess, about being retired. Nobody still working the day shift anywhere isn't likely to be shopping there at 1:00am. And most people NOT working anywhere is gonna be shopping there any time. Whitefang

I do 90% of the food shopping in our house (She works sometimes 11 hours a day four days a week). Plus I have to accompany the wife on her night time excursions to Walmart, and Fries (Supermarket) if she has to shop at those times, as well as Home Depot, Lowes, (and also the marijuana dispensaries), (She has the med card), (and when we go into California we always shop at the now legal recreational dispensaries over there). (The west coast states are legal from the Mexican to the Canadian borders). Also Nevada. We are voting on recreational here in Arizona again. I do not know who is making the laws but they are sure missing out on some huge tax revenues. They should decriminalize cannabis nation wide.

Side note, I read yesterday that Willie Nelson is quitting smoking weed because of the health issues it has brought him. Prolly still get some nice cookies though.

Side note, I read yesterday that Willie Nelson is quitting smoking weed because of the health issues it has brought him. Prolly still get some nice cookies though. I rarely smoke it, I use drops. (unsweetened) So I agree with Willy because I have lungs that put up with my tobacco use for 22 years at a pack a day, first Lucky Strikes, then later on Marlboro's. I quit when I was 33. So smoking and vaping is out of the picture for me.

I stopped smoking weed at 32. I'll be 64 next bday. No judgement. Each their own for sure. I continued smoking 2 packs a day, 35 years in all, until I was about 55. Roll your own to Camel, Luckies, Chesterfield, and Pall Mall. I have been free of it all for about 9 years. I think being a harp player may have saved me.
I'd be afraid to try smoking weed these days. Since the whole high tech wave I think it's much stronger. I'd probably end up a drooling idiot. More so than currently!
