Interesting turn of events. Jo has worked with the 335 a couple or 3 times and today we set everything up in the big rally hall so we could begin to figure out what songs and what settings the 335 was good on. After about an hour Jo's back was really bothering her and she had to give up for the moment. She stayed in the truck while I broke stuff down and got packed up. She let me know though, the 335 is too heavy for her even on her lap. So as soon as I got thing loaded up and locked down we headed for Guitar Center in San Antone and returned it. Let me say this too- I've been in a few GC's here and there and this one has been the best one as far an nice people and great service. The return took about 10 minutes and the guy was so cool about it.
As long as we were there we were looking around for a semi-hollow body, but a fat one, like an Epi Emperor Regent. She would have grabbed one up if it was a Peerless factory model. Too bad, none to be had. She looked at some Gretsch and a few other brands and nothing jumped out until.....I spotted a D'Angelo, semi hollow, with a single mini humbucker on it. On sale too, $449 down from $700. Plugged it into a Supro reissue 12w tube amp and it was off to the races! Sounded dang good and especially for the price. Since there was an Ibanez similar to the D'Angelico right handy we plugged that in too. It had 2 ceramic pickups in it. Sounded pretty good and it was like $369. But the D'Angelico won out. Even came with a gig bag, which it took them most of an hour to dig up. We bought it. The guy threw in a set of next size up strings if we wanted to try them after a while and a gal wiped the guitar down for us. It's a very nice shiny black! When it rang up it was even less than the tag price, by an extra $65. Not bad at all! $415 out the door with a bag and a set of strings. A hard case would run well over $100 so we're going to figure out a way to transport it hopefully in the case we have the old Kay Trutone in.
That Supro amp is very close to what we use when we play electric so I think we got a good read on how the guitar will sound out live. And you know, if Baby's happy we ALL happy! Big savings too. About 1/3 of the 335 cost even with it on sale. We spent upwards of $1300 for it so for about 1/3 we have Jo a guitar I think she will get a lot of good use out of.
It has been a hard day for my bride and she is crashed out now. I think tomorrow she will have that guitar in her lap a while.

Is that D'Angelico a Premier DC? From what I've seen(and heard) they're mighty nice. Whitefang

I'll have to look. She's asleep now and the guitar in in that room. I will say, she played riffs of maybe 15 or 20 songs and it put out well on everything. This guitar weighs maybe 60% of a Gibson ES335 too.

If that one doesn't work out try this one as reasonably light and nice. Epiphone Ltd. Ed. Wildkat Studio w/ P90 pickups

That's an Emperor Regent is it not? Great guitar, not so easy to find, and we got a huge deal on the D'Angelico because, as the guy at GC told us, "Nobody in SanTone plays jazz boxes". This guitar was hung on a post very near the front door. It had a sale tag on it, $449 down from $749. It was dusty! Came with a gig bag but the hard case we have for the old Kay Trutone fits right, so there's the transport case. And they wiped the guitar down and tossed us a pair of next size up strings. They wanted to move it. There were Ibanez and Gretsch guitars aplenty in this class but this was the one D'Angelico I saw. I think that 1, this is the IT guitar, and 2, we won't find a better deal on a new axe.
