Jo caught a thing about The Doors the other night and asked if we could maybe cover one. what she liked is their cover of JLH's Crawlin' Kingsnake.

None of his stuff seems musically difficult, so probably just about anything of his will do. Let us know your pick. Whitefang

Tough to choose .... Highway 13 and Catfish might be good.

John Lee Hooker did a myriad of tunes, all of it great. If you can record your performance please do so. Or if someone else records it and you can get a copy I'd love to hear it.

It'll be a while but usually once we get a song working well we do a video and put it on youtube.

Nice work amigo. I listened to two songs, different arrangements from the originals but well done.

Thanks DBM. We've always wanted to honor the songs but not copy.

Yeah, your voice seems to have a sort of raw TOM WAITS quality to it. Whitefang

Thanks DBM. We've always wanted to honor the songs but not copy. I understand completely. I rarely do a cover like the original, and never a lead lick like the original. I do a cover of Billy Joel's New York State Of Mind just like the original but I cut the long intro out when I recorded the backing track from a MIDI file to audio using high quality samples, plus I do a guitar solo wherever the original solo was. I also do Georgia On My Mind but no lyrics I do the melody on guitar all the way through, the backing track also from a MIDI is exactly like the Ray Charles version backing track.

Fang, I always describe my voice as a scrap iron wagon falling down the stairs. Jolene has the angel voice. Good combo especially when we find a song we can sing together.
DBM, I realized a long time ago that try as I might, with various and sundry partners, we could do our best and not recreate what the original artists did when they made a given song. Too much is different including the lives we live. But it's in the struggle for quality and a satisfying product that sometimes magic happens.
When Jo was looking at guitars previously they were always out of reach $$ wise. This one time in life, a small ship came in for her and while she was entertaining the idea of a cheaper and "lesser" guitar, I played her a youtube or two of JLH doing some of his stuff on an ES335. She may have already been mostly convinced but I'd like to think my input was a factor. I've worked with guys who played 335's and it's always been a good experience thanks to a better playing guitar with better tone and sound. I expect that Jo will rise up with this axe and I will be along for the ride!
