I have tinnitus and have had it since my Marshall 100 watt Plexi days. The Plexi was the original one like the pro's used, a pre master volume one from the 1960's, and it screamed like the pros amps did, and it was freakin loud. But I really do not pay attention to the tinnitus, it is just there and once in a while it sneaks into my consciousness, but generally it just sits in the background hissing away unnoticed. However I only play at home usually, and I never play above bedroom levels these days, so it is not getting worse. I do bring ear plugs to live concerts however, and stuff them in my ears if the sound guy does not have a treble mitigation awareness, or no skill in cutting the harsh highs out of the mix. For that ear plugs are mandatory in my go to concert preparations..

I'm about the same with mine. Although I played at pretty high volumes mainly in the later '60s the problem really didn't start until the '80s when I was more exposed to industrial and warehouse type noise. It is filtered out pretty good when I'm playing guitar or even other reasonable volume sources. It sounds like crickets when I hear it.

I'm about the same with it except it's more a hum when things are all quiet. Lots of loud music and lots of loud factory noise, mills, drills, etc. Most times I don't notice it. What I DO notice and have for some years is, hearing loss in some ranges. Mostly it shows during conversations. It may manifest when we play acoustic, I'm not sure. I think if Jo plays guitar loud when we're acoustic I'm fine but at times when she's playing quieter I miss a change here or there. Amped playing, even though we keep it low, works very well.

I've got a constant "ringing" in my right ear that one quack claimed was tinnitus. Said it was the result of all my years working in auto plants. But the noise didn't start until FOUR YEARS after I retired! He prescribed a tinnitus"masker", which just put out a lot of "white noise" and didn't do anything but cost my Blue Cross $1,000. Another E,N&T doctor told me it wasn't tinnitus and suggested Lipo-Flavinoid, which does help a lot. But during long periods of not taking them the noise comes back. It sounds more like a high pitched tone than a "ring", Oh........
I tried explaining to the first doc that the volume of the sound isn't constant, that sometimes it's quieter than other times, and even not present at all. He tried to tap-dance with the explanation that during the daytime there's more "ambient" sound and so the ringing in my ears sounds quieter than at night when there's far less ambient sound, which makes the sound in my ear sound louder. But he had no pat answer when I pointed out that sometimes it's louder during the day than at night. I hate doctors that rely on "chart medicine". Whitefang
