For ME anyway...... Don't know about any of you, but I've never heard accordions used much(if at all) in jazz....... The guy on accordion is JULIEN LABRO...

The guy can play, can't say as I like the sound of the thing, but he is accomplished at the instrument.

Growing up Polish, I was glad to hear the instrument used more creatively than what was done by Myron Floren and Frankie Yankovic( no relation to Al ) Oh, I don't eschew my heritage, but you can only take so much of...... Whitefang

Frankie was huge with Polka fans when I was growing up in Pgh. Along with the teen rock bands I was in, I also played in Standards & Polka Band with some older guys. We played weddings and various event type jobs. It was Cordovox (Don, the leader), Tenor Sax, Guitar, Bass and Drums. Cordovox History

You'll recall I brought up the CORDOVOX before, as the instrument a music store owner I knew thought would be the "biggest thing" back in '69 and how he went out of business in less than a year. I don't know for sure what Pgh. is, but if you mean Pittsburgh, well, there were a lot of Poles living in and around there back during the beginning of the 20th century and probably even now, as my family lived for a time there and in nearby Hermanie working in the coal mine there(and later having a farm). They came to Detroit in the early '30's, when Southwest Detroit was a huge Polish settlement. Over the years it became more and more Hispanic and is still a huge Latino community. We all have our favorites, but truly, the last and only Polka band I liked was------ Ha! I do remember my Grandparents(on myMother's side) watching a TV show with a similar studio set, but can't remember the show's name or what channel it was on. That's why the Smengy bit cracked me up so much. Whitefang
