Somebody(sorry, forgot who) posted about this before it seems not so long ago. But last night(3/27/20) the local PBS station here broadcast it. Man, what a trip(of sorts) down memory lane... Mentions of clubs like the Chess Mate and Phelp's Lounge gave me pause to wax nostalgic. Never been to Phelp's, but the still standing abandoned buildong still stands and should be preserved as an important part of Detroit's musical history. Early Motown acts like The Temptation, The Contours and Four Tops all played Phelp's on their ways up. And the last act, before closing in 1981 was a B.B. King appearance. The Chess Mate, at the corner of McNichols(6 mile) road and Livernois still standing but no longer in business was, by the time me and a few buddies were "snuck" in the back by a buddy'd brother who worked there( and in '66-67) was by then letting go of it's blues and folk showcases and regularly featured "Psychedelic" acts like THE BLUES MAGOOS and COUNT FIVE. After getting out of here, I'm going to the WTVS( PBS) web site and see if I can order a copy of the documentary. Whitefang
