These guitars were made in the 40's to maybe 60's. Last one we had, had the same markings. It sounded dang good for slide and I put a stick on pickup on the body near the bridge so we could amp it A monster if a small one! We'll see this one in a few days.

Waiting on UPS. They came yesterday and it's a deal where we have to sign for it so they took it back and rescheduled for sometime today. Hurry up and wait!

So the Regal Parlor guitar is here. It's in better shape than the last one! It has a cap on the nut to raise the action for slide already. Last one did not have that. So Jo wanted this one off after she fest drove the guitar a little, and once I loosened the strings off it came right out. She got retuned and there was a lot of buzz because now the action is too low, so I put the whatever ya call it back on. She popped a string trying to get it back in tune. Trip to SanTonio to GC tomorrow! Strings and maybe a pickup. Hoping someone there can replace the one string and get it tuned in easier than Jo could this time. I think the strings are new, tuners are new as well. Hopefully some play time will get things grooved in. It will be nice to do some slide stuff again.

For real, Fang, thank you. Every day is a blessing. Jo's latest coffee cup says Enjoy Every Moment.

So after a visit to the shop today, the guitar is in tune and has fresh strings. BUT. Action is still way too high for jo's purposes. So next week yet another trip to the shop to get the nut redone. I think then it will be workable. I already have a little stick on pickup picked out for like $16. Soft case on the way too.
The silver lining is we found a great guitar shop 22 miles away.
We got wind of a blues jam night on Tuesdays about 30 miles away. Worth a look at least once.

I thought high action was preferable for slide, unless Jo plans doing both slide and standard playing on it?
Anyway, I notice Jo never seems to strum the strings on the "upsweep". Makes me think her "formative" years on guitar was on a 12 string. If not, is there a particular reason for it?
Just askin'. Whitefang

Well the insert that fits over the nut brings the action about twice as high as on the last Regal. She can't get the sound she wants on a couple of songs for that reason. So back to the shop soon. Meanwhile yesterday we blew some serious cash on a fresh phone so we get to wait on some income. See the busking thread. Re: Jo's strum style, the family axe way back when we a cheap 6 string, probably a Sears. I have no idea how she =developed her technique except to say she is largely self taught. A few lessons from a couple of guys years ago around Arkansas, some Youtube, and the rest is all her.

Just as long as you don't think I was saying something bad about it. Just struck me as odd. But if it works for her, then OK. Whitefang

Naw, I know you're just curious Fang. You know being a harp guy I've been around guitars a lot over the years, even owned a couple. In fact the last one was a sort of sister to these Regals, the difference was mine was a square neck. I had barely begun to learn a bit about lap slide. Lost that one when our last rig went bye bye. I'm still considering learning some slide to accompany the cajon and my harp work, but one thing at a time. I'm actually about to build a couple of basic foot pedals and mount mallets on them so I can use them on the cajon. Then get my foot rhythm down good. That will take a little doing.
There's a guy named Juzzie Smith who does this kind of act. Worth looking up on youtube. Adam Gussow does foot drums too but he buys the very high end equipment.
