Just wondering how the blues scale evolved. Seems like it was used early on by both Jazz and blues guitar players. I believe it is believed that Robert Johnson was the first guitar player to use a flatted 5th in his recordings of the 30's. Also, Charlie Parker used a flatted 5th in some of his improvisations in the 20's. And was this an innovation of the guitar players, or did harmonica players employ the flatted 5th pentatonic scale first?
Interesting question I think.

I think the simple answer is that it came from African music. By mixing it with Western music, we got these unusual scales.
