Disc 16 Ah, April of '59! A wonderful document, and a pleasure to listen to . . . I shouldn't want it to be my only recording of the Grande Messe des Morts, though!
Cheers, ~k.

My friend and colleague here in Boston, Carson Cooman, just loaded onto YouTube a short but lovely organ piece by my friend and colleague in Portugal, Ivan Moody:
Cheers, ~k. Thanks Karl for allowing us to hear your friends music. Very enjoyable.

Part of yesterday's listening, actually:
Peter Mennin (1923-1983) Symphony ? 7, « Variation-Symphony » (1963)
Perhaps the very first year I played in a Region Band, there was a short piece by Mennin, Canzona . . . which at the time grabbed me by the collar; it was the most exciting music I had yet taken part in. Mennin was one of a number of "mid-20th-c. American symphonists" (William Schuman was another) who wrote music which was, well, pretty much irrelevant to what most of the American listening public wanted, in an era when radio and rock 'n' roll were beginning to define "the urban soundtrack." I find the symphonies of both Mennin and Schuman rich, energetic, engaging, vital.
Hope you may like some of it, too . . . .
Cheers, ~k.

Maybe my favorite Haydn symphony (the 77) and easily my most enjoyed recording: Interesting how few times this gorgeous, yet nice punch to it, piece has been recorded. This BBC edition came inside a magazine, but can be had for a song if you dig around a bit. Sorry for not posting first in the new member thread. Wanted to land here with a Papa post.

Haydn is probably one of my favorite composers. So much so, I own this monster! BTW, welcome to the board, Bogey!

Indeed. I have the Fischer in the big Brilliant brick. I enjoy HIP as well as modern recordings. Heck, I would probably enjoy even a polka version of the 77.
