Just an example of Rev. Gary Davis' banjo skills.

Sonny Terry had a unique sound. I've heard other folks imitate his playing, but don't sound like him.
I sure like that banjo playing too. Having tortured myself trying to learn how to play banjo and fiddle, I appreciate it more.

Mustrad is a great site Alan. Thanks. \ It lost a certain "something" when its indefatigable founder, Keith Summers, died unexpectedly. Pre internet it started out life as a magazine called Musical Traditions.

thanks Alan...is there other sites like Mustrad that are still active? They are probably a great source for opinions. I'll give it some thought. My impression is that Mustrad is a dinosaur in an era of blogs (and like). That said Jeff Titon's blog is well worth a visit - I spent hours trawling through it......lotsa "food for thought" sustainablemusic.blogspot.co.uk/

Yes Alan, it does look promising.
Having said that, I did a little perusal myself, and when I search the site for some terms near and dear to my heart (Piedmont Blues, Delta Blues, etc) it doesn't seem to find much. I don't know if the author doesn't really put labels on the entries or there aren't much in the blog that covers these.
On the subject of this thread, Gary Davis doesn't come up in a search either.
