I did a search and didn't find a thread dedicated to this great guitar player and a reknowned accompanist to Sonny Terry. Alan Lomax, in his field recordings, has several sound files here that show a "Brother McGhee". I am wondering what, if any, is the relationship between Brother McGhee and Brownie McGhee. We know that Brownie had a brother Granville (Stick) McGhee but was he "Brother" on Alan Lomax' field recordings? I find it strange that on Lomax recording - Deep River of Song: Black Appalachia: String Bands, Songsters and Hoedowns, Lomax credits Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. I believe that would dismiss Brownie and Brother being the same individual. More from Cultural Equity

Brownie recorded as Tennessee Gabriel 11 June 1948 for Circle Records and as Brothers McGhee & Terry for Choice in 1957. Brownie did a session for Okeh as Brother George and His Sanctified Singers 19 June 1940. But that's it, nothing else shown in Chris Smith's 1999 Terry/McGhee magnum opus.

On the 100th anniversary of his birth Brownie McGhee Walter Brown "Brownie" McGhee was a Piedmont blues singer and guitarist, best known for his collaborations with the harmonica player Sonny Terry. Wikipedia Born: November 30, 1915, Knoxville, TN Died: February 16, 1996, Oakland, CA Movies: Angel Heart, The Jerk, Legends of Traditional Fingerstyle Guitar Siblings: Stick McGhee Quotes Everybody would grab a guitar and listen to somebody else and call themselves a folk singer. When they didn't know no more songs, they'd run out of them. I got Sonny up to Harlem, and we started street playin' in New York. We did that for three or four years and survived. We brought it back to the streets again. I met Sonny after (Blind Boy) Fuller died, and me and Sonny played in the streets like everybody else. CC Rider interview:ccriderblues.com/brownie-mcghee/
