I understand all the stuff about the string length, tones, and most important the price differences between uprights and baby grands. But it seem for the Blues, the uprights give that dirty sound a lot of the old barrelhouse players had.
Anyone else feel this way, or would you think the baby grand is best, regardless of genre?

It's funny - I hear a lot of keyboard players talking about the space that would be needed for a real piano, but I'm sure they're talking about grands and not verticals which would fit better. Nowadays, you rarely see uprights in clubs. Though I wonder if the bias against uprights is due to the poor condition many of them ended up in.
