When I first began listening to the blues back in the early 1980's, this was the go to label for good quality blues music. Guys like Lonnie Brooks, Albert Collins, Son Seals, Luther Allison, etc. Man, those were good times for blues artists and blues music enthusiasts. The question I like to ask and I'm sure there are many fans out there who loved this label, what are some of your favorite recordings from Alligator Records? I'll get things going by naming some of my favorites.
Lonnie Brooks - Bayou Lightning Albert Collins - Don't Lose Your Cool, Showdown!(featuring Johnny Copeland and Robert Cray), Cold Snap Son Seals - Bad Axe
Your turn!

The first two 1974 Hound Dog Taylor LPs. Guitar, bass and drums. Nothing fancy, no excessive production (so redolent today). Just pure, unadulterated, warts and all good-time music. Never seemed to be off the turntable.

I'm with Alan on this one - everything Hound Dog Taylor did is fantastic.

I'm with Alan on this one - everything Hound Dog Taylor did is fantastic. What many will remember is his 1967 AFBF appearance in London - not only for his set but also the sixth finger to his left hand. More was written about that than his performance!

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. I have several albums from Alligator on Gatemouth. This is among my favorites:

An album not to everyone's liking, but if you're in the market for some heavy duty guitar work, Michael fills the bill. I saw Michael many years ago at the NY State Blues Festival in Syracuse, NY and he was LOUD! Think Hendrix loud. Michael unfortunately is no longer with us, but we still have his music to enjoy and this is a good one.
