After deciding i must try blowing harmonica after putting it off for about 15 years.
I am able to knock out a decent variety / style of tune but have now looked at interpreting a number of the classics in my own style which does, lets be honest differ hugely from the play of the masters. ( keeps me happy though )
Still look at tabs for a start up but tend to learn by constant re listening to a classic number & then working it out through my own ear.
Greatest thrill is discovering somebody new (to me at least) from 50 plus years ago & loving the raw simplicity of their sounds. Recently discovered Slim Harpo for myself & am quite frankly amazed.
Enjoy watching the YouTube buskers in the States & have promised myself that i must see them for myself.I live in Northern England) I will leave the wife laying in the sun somewhere.
Have realised what experienced harp players on here have said before, a more expensive harp does not make you a better player but a cheap one can make you sound even worse. I must admit that the most expensive harp i own, a Manji is not an instrument which i have learnt to love.
Love reading the forums, looking at the harps which i might like to buy next & foot tapping to music my friends have no idea of.
Now back to 'Baby, Scratch My Back' one more time before the wife hits the sack. Think i need a woodshed.
Cheers.

My favorite harp is usually the one I have in my hand when someone says play a tune. As Madcat says: when your called to play you use what you have available no matter if its a Huang or a Filisko. Actually my favorite is the Seydel 1847 Gazell model. I really like the Seydel Solist Pro too. For a moderately priced harp I like the Seydel Blues Session. Of the harps I own, one of my all time favorites is an older Huang Silvertone Bb that I keep in my fishing bucket. If I could afford it, I'd have a set of early German made Hohner Old Standby harps. I have heard that the Hohner Crossover is a good harp.
