Looking back through some of my old records and notes, I found a reference to a Nashvillian - Cecil Gant. I remember his influence on the early development of Rockabilly - his boogie set the beat for some early songs. I remember him performing at the Subway Lounge just off Printer's Alley in Nashville in about 1954. On the bill with Little Richard, and others...Platters if my memory is correct. A good summary: home.earthlink.net/~jaymar41/cgant.html

Posted by AlanB:
For what it's worth the first ever vinyl release of Gant material was a 14 tracker put together by Tony Russell in 1974. This was followed up in 1976 with a 16 tracker and in 1997 there was a 21 tracker on Flyright FLYCD 61. Just to further confuse purchasers in 1983 16 more songs were released on Bastin's Krazy Cat label as an LP!!! Bastin owned all of Gant's 78s from whence the LPs/CDs all came. I wouldn't mind betting that somebody somewhere out there has already put together some type of box set using that source.
Having now bored you all to tears.....

Followup post from AlanB Jim, the attached is now well out of date but only thing I have in "electronic form", should give some idea as to his output. Attachments:CecilGant 2.pdf (155.5 KB)

CECIL GANT.pdf (105.88 KB) Hi James I reviewed a Cecil Gant CD collection for R2 Magazine (UK) in 2008 and would be happy to share it, if I could find a way of attaching the .pdf! EDIT: I've been able to do it, but only by going via the "edit" function - is there a simpler way? David

Sure. At the top of the page when you post, you can see "Add Attachment". Click on that, and double click where it say's "Add File". It's done.
