My favourite is Willie Dixon from his "I am the Blues" recording.

If I'm not mistaken- and I could be- Dixon wrote that and Wolf took it places. Later on Dixon did his version. I like both equally well. Every other version just tries to get close but does not succeed. Just sayin'. 'Wrote' in the loose blues sense of 'borrowed'

Well we ALL agree on one thing this song along with EVIL has been done by soooo many artists n so man blood versions, mots nice to here the early ones listen to the evolve chronologically !!!
EVIL, the version By Gary Moore is FANTASTIC though some say his blues r to rocky, some say Robert Johnsons songs r to plain ll,ll
So we have out choice cause it seems about every 5 years this song gets done agin by somebody along with ETTA JAMES HIt I'd RATHER GO BLIND.....

My first exposure to this song, when I was Wee Bairn, was through this Etta James/Harvey Fuqua classic R&B take. I always assumed the song was primarily about sex. You know...the "Lovin' spoonful".
