I don't know if anyone will get anything out of this or not, but I have a lot of discographies that i have been compiling for the last say 30 or so years, mostly R&B/Doo Wop and the like. I was putting them up on another forum, that has since gone defunct, that I was a member of (along with AlanB). I don't think for one minute that I have furthered Music Scholarship even one iota, but I enjoyed doing them. Mostly they were for my own education (and that of a few record collecting friends). In any case, this is a discography of King Solomon Hill's 78 RPM output.
King Solomon Hill US 78 Discography
King Solomon Hill is a pseudonym. Researcher Gayle Dean Wardlow claimed his real name was Joe Holmes, However this has been disputed by others. Big Joe Williams claimed to Bob Koester that he was King Solomon Hill. Blues historian, Sam Charters had published his own idea that bluesman Sam Collins was King Solomon Hill. In fact, many of the "facts" about King Solomon hill are in question and it is a matter of who one believes. The spring 1932 recording date is as per Wardlow through his interview with Hill/Holmes wife. Alex Van Der Tuuk claims the recordings were done during November of 1931. Another source claims January of 1932. For me to give all sides of every statement made about King Solomon Hill would constitute a massive undertaking and far to big an article to appear here. This discography should give the basics, though.
Paramount 13116
Whoopee Blues/Down On My Bended Knee; 1932
King Solomon Hill
(The label credits "King Solomon Hill (Blind Lemon's Buddy)". Both of these recordings are of the first take of these songs. This record was issued contemporaneously with Crown 3325.)
Crown 3325
Whoopee Blues/Down On My Bended Knee; 1932
King Solomon Hill
(The label credits "Down South Boys". Both Of These recordings are of the second take of these songs. This record was issued contemporaneously with Paramount 13116. The Crown recordings were also issued on the Varsity Label [Cat. No. 6010] with slighty changed spelling of the song titles. "Whoopie Blues"/"Down On My Bended Knees" These are both take two as on the Crown label.)
Paramount 13125
My Buddy Blind Papa Lemon/Times Has Done Got Hard; 1932
King Solomon Hill
(Only one known copy, found in Wisconsin in 2002)
Paramount 13129

King Solomon Hill
(This record also exists with the artist's name spelled "King Soloman Hill")
Paramount 13118

(According to Blues Scholar, Gayle Dean Wardlow, King Solomon Hill is The Harmonica Player on "Boodle De Bum". That may be so, but Curry was also an accomplished harmonica player, himself and so, this is another disputed "fact".)
