The Yardbirds are coming to the Harvester Performance Center. This iconic group is legendary, with former members Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, etc.
Does anyone know how the current lineup sounds?

I saw them a couple of years ago at B.B. King's Blues Club in NYC. They've had the same lineup for the last several years now. Jim McCarty is the only original Yardbird left in the group. In addition to all their hits they play a couple of Led Zeppelin tunes these days. I remember them doing "Dazed And Confused". They were Pretty good. the vocalist they have now sounds alright (but, of course, he's no Keith Relf). Over all, it was a good show. I felt it was worth it.
Here's a Youtube Video from this year

Actually, Dazed and Confused was first done when Page was in the Yardbirds. In fact, it was written by Jake Holmes for himself, according to Wikipedia and then the yardbirds adopted it.

Thanks Rooster for that update. It's a group I feel I must see again, just for old time's sake.
And thanks for that bit of info Joe.

So with one original member, is it really the Yardbirds? I was hoping that EC, Page, and Beck might get together for a little thing.

Yeah, you're right. The Yardbirds played the song on tour in 1967/68. As for the Jake Holmes part of the story, Jimmy Page pretty much stole the song and claimed it for his own. Holmes sued page in 2010 and settled out of court. Page has done a lot of settling out of court over the years when it came to songwriter's credits/royalties. rooster

"The Jim McCarty Band" or "The Yardbirds" Tribute band, perhaps . I would suppose McCarty owns the name and so, any group of musicians he chooses to put forth ARE "The Yardbirds". So it goes... rooster

Well if it sounded good to you and you feel it was worth the $$ then that's what matters. We are big fans of Page. EC has informed Jo's playing to an extent, and she doesn't care for Mr. Beck while I hold a special place in my musical heart for him. Our version of Not Fade Away is near to the old Yardbirds version. If not for them we may have left a real gem untouched.

I guess he could have called the band the New Yardbirds but that might have been confusing. Actually, when the band reformed in 1992, the band included bothMcCarty and Dreja, and Top Topham was in it for a while as well.

If I remember rightly, Chris Dreja dropped out of the group due to health issues.
In any case, whether or not I saw The Yardbirds or Something else, is a matter of personal preference. For some, as long one original member is still in the band, it will be the Yardbirds.

For what it's worth, I saw the original Yardbirds several times in Sheffield at the Esquire Club. They were great.

This reminds me of the Pointer Sisters: The Pointer Sisters started out as a quartette.Nowadays it's a trio including one original member:namely Ruth.June died of drug abuse.Bonnie and Anita are still with us.They'll probably never reunite.
