We sat down this morning with some new sings we've been writing, each independent and one we sort of wrote together. At the very beginning where Jo has to try and find some good chords and I have to fit some harp into the verses. Not all are going to be I-IV-V, at least one is a hang on the "I" deal and others may be more along the lines of roots rock. Early to tell.
Exciting times! It's been about 2 years since we were at this point on the last CD!

So sometimes a song idea will sort of come and go several times. It may be over a few days up to a few years. Elusive glimpses of the pieces- a line here, and refrain there. At some point the mind finds a place to put all the bits and makes that place visible. Some 2 years ago I had an idea for a song and actually had some of it jotted down. While we were traveling, or when we liquidated 95% of our possessions a year ago after the wicked bugs incident, I lost my notes on the song.
Saturday was not a busy day early on. We had the gig that evening but there were some hours we had before that with nothing planned except eat and relax. As I was sitting at the computer the idea for a song about a solid blues theme came to me almost whole. It's about the struggle for the daily wage, something I know a bit about after 40 odd years and 3 major careers, and many smaller endeavors to get a loaf of bread on the table, and a roof over the table.
It's going to be a slide song, so likely in Am or open G. Typical call/response. I have yet to present it to Jolene but I'm pretty sure once we take a little time to work with it it's going to fall into place very easily. Some go smooth like that, some are more complex and take some real mind stretching to get the music and lyrics to hang together.
