We booked a date for late this month and the forecast at the time was optimistic, mid to high 70's at that time. As the end of the week approaches, we've seen an early intro to very cool wet weather here. Forecast high Friday is 60. This is a venue right on the Arkansas River, an outdoor stage. It's likely to be in the mid or low 50's by the time we would be kicking off, and that's too cold to ask my guitar partner to play in.
While we like making the cash and playing to people, this one is going to have to go by the wayside. I'm skeptical we'd have much audience since a big Oktoberfest event is kicking off for the weekend, right across the river anyway. Live music, rides, beer, all the usual stuff. And with health risks it's pretty much a no brainer.
The days of "the show must go on", under difficult circumstances, we're no stranger to that idea. Bad motel rooms out of town, crashing on peoples' couches in unheated or un-airconditioned places, crappy pay or none, dangerous electrical systems, outdoor gigs in 100 degrees, rain, and cold, have been some of our experiences. At this point in the game we're looking for decent venues, decent weather, and decent pay. Not much to ask really.

So the place is not open this evening due to weather today. Sure hate losing a gig! Doing what one loves is sometimes much more lucrative. I did 4 hours labor today and that got me about 15% of what we'd have earned had we been able to play tonight for the same hours. Ironic.

Sending good vibes that today's losses are tomorrow's wins.

Looking at the bigger picture, we've had plenty of good fortune here. Once in a while there has to be a negative if only to keep us grateful for all the positives.
