We've had our share of good and bad times in recent years, and we are on the verge of the next chapter as of this early afternoon. That's when we paid a year's hard won savings on a fresh travel trailer rig! We take possession in about 10 days and then I will redo a few things before we get back on THE ROAD!
A year ago we had lost our home on wheels to Asian Lady beetles and were more or less adrift, living in motels and trying to get a grip somehow. We had our clothes and our music stuff and not much else then. After a terrible 6 weeks in Las Vegas, we bailed and headed to Tulsa, where we've been for right at 11 months now. The itch never left though, and last spring Jo asked if I thought we could somehow find our way back to the highways and byways. This year has been one of hard work, smart planning, and sometimes forced optimism. Here we are at the threshold of the next adventure again! South and then east for us. Someplace warmer by Christmas.
I'm looking for some workamping gigs where I can work 20-25 hours for a site to plug into, for a few months until spring hits when I have something like that lined up in the north US. This helps cut cost and frees us up wherever we are to look for music opportunities. When autumn is in the air we find something in the south.
That's where we're at today. It's SWEEEEEEEET!!

So the weather is turning cold and maybe icy. We are delaying getting it for an extra couple of days. In a week I'll head an hour north and do the walk through at the dealer . They are offering us a 2 or 3 night stay at their park next door which gives me time to do some interior tweaks and then get it titled etc. Then it's off the Lafayette Louisiana! A month or more depending on opportunities. Looking for other places and situations across the gulf states until summer, then north for the season.

UPDATE! We got the travel trailer and last week I did some mods and we got everything moved in. With impeccable timing we left northeast Oklahoma for Little Rock. Just about as soon as we hit the road towing a 5k lb. trailer the rain started and never let up all the way here! But we made it. We settled in for a few days to recuperate from a heavy week, and Tuesday morning we're heading south to Lafayette Louisiana. We're hoping to settle there for a month or more, or someplace in Cajun country. The plan then is to head for NY state near the Catskill mountains for the summer where I have a part time camp host deal. May be some music opportunities close by as well.
So. PROGRESS!!

So it's been a while since I popped in. Life has been a bit hectic between our stay at Duson and then moving around several times, heading to Florida and trying to keep a spot to stay plugged in! This is "snowbird" season when a lot of vacationers head to this state, so RV spots are harder to come by. A couple of weeks ago in Louisiana the huge sugar cane field next to the RV park there was burned off. This drove the Asian Lady Beetles our way and we saw some nearby. If you remember these were the critters that invaded our last travel trailer by the thousands and made it unlivable. So we hooked and hauled, to the east. I thought I'd found a deal where I could work for RV spot rent but it was a dud, and we had driven 2 days to get there, in the heart of northern Florida! We spent a night or two at Walmarts both on the way across from Louisiana and after we got to Florida, and we also got a night or two at some different parks. We ended up near the coast south of Tallahassee about an hour and we're here for another 10 days or maybe a little more. I found a contractor job out of Tallahassee that starts in about 3 weeks. Good pay, full weeks, a chance to build up a few $$. Getting in this rig and back mobile has been a strain on the old wallet! Now today we are heading about 45 minutes west to Apalachicola, a coast town with a lot of restaurants, oyster bars, etc., where we hope to nail down some gigs. We'll also be looking at Tallahassee when we move up there in a few weeks. We've seen some cool stuff in the area, several springs, coastal forest, some salt water, and some damage from the last hurricane that hit the coast last year, Michael. Up until the other day though we were kind of distracted with logistics and had missed practicing our music. Things are now back on track and we're recharged and ready to go talk to the managers and seeing about getting the music back out! Lots of poics of our travels around Florida so far here: Jawbone and Jolene/Adios Infinity

…...And another! Harry's Bar Carrabelle, Fla.Some days you just walk in with no real expectation, maybe just to get a "no" out of the way, and there you go. Hired in about 3 minutes. 4 hour afternoon/evening show on a Sunday.
