In the past year or so, I have been far less interested in listening to music. I am now in my "silence is golden phase". I prefer sitting at home with the TV and radio/CD player turned off.
When my wife has the schlocky TV programs turned on, with all the dumb shit dialog they create for the masses, I do put on my headphones and MP3 player and listen to 60's music, or I open up my I-Pad and go to Netflix or Prime video and look for comedians to watch with the headphones on. Anything to drown out the dumb shit dialog the normal commercial TV presents. I have plenty of gripes about normal TV, and dislike listening to stuff that irks me because it is so mundane. I do have 3 channels of PBS which interest me, I also have Circle TV which is a Grand Old Opry enterprise for the Opry and Hee Haw, and the Decades Channel for Old Laugh In shows and sometime the old Ed Sullivan shows.
Anyways the point of this thread is to say; Listening to music these days does not have that hold on me like it did years ago. I still play the guitar every day for an hour and a half, not because it interests me, but because I need to do that so I can continue playing fluently, in other words it is a chore more than an enjoyment.
I don't know if I outgrew listening to music, or just got bored with the sameness of the popular stuff.

Not meaning to be a "Darren downer" here, I have to say that I'd give ANYTHING to be able to sit in the same room while my wife watches one of her "schlocky" TV programs.(she was big on those Lifetime and Hallmark movies, and the "Chrisley Knows Best" show). And music-wise my problem is a bit different than yours. I'd listen to more music(since retirement has given me plenty of time to) but I have so much to choose from I have to make my mind up as to what I want to listen to a few days ahead of time. See, by the time I make up my mind, my desire to listen has passed, and a few days later I'll be in the mood again. I'll too, go through "jags" of what I listen to... For instance, I might go through a week or so of listening to nothing but jazz, and next, a "jag" of listening to nothing but "prog-rock", then Blues, Classical and so forth. Lately I've been wearing out THESE two CDs...(with an example of each here.... Whitefang

My std. defaults are 2 college stations. One is Roots Radio WMOT which offers a variety of music styles from retro to modern. They also have an online jazz station. The other is not quite as diversified but still good range of styles 50s to current. Otherwise it is CDs or similar Youtube stuff. Most of our std. TV is local news, NPTV or cable history/science TV for Mrs. I do some sports. I've been watching Netflix and Tubi a lot lately, mostly Tubi now since they have mega sci-fi, horror, etc. some pretty good and some hilariously bad almost as if intended. Guitar wise just playing and often learning new or relearning old stuff. I go through some mood swings here and there. This year seems/feels more and more like the old Twilight Zone TV series.

Yeah Earle, I keep thinking I see Rod over by the potted plant!
I don't listen to a whole lot of music, sometimes when I'm doing an errand by myself I'll turn the truck radio on. Radio stations here are mostly bad.
I always have something playing in my head too.
Lately once a week we go into town and play a set or two, live rehearsal with tip possibilities! Jo is having trouble reading lyrics and notation due to her cataracts, but being the trouper she is, she is pushing on until the cataract surgery takes place. After that things will be easier.

Today(10/10) a station called ANTENNATV is having a "Burns and Allen Show" marathon. I'm in hog heaven since I've been a fan of Gracie since I was big enough to sit up straight in front of the tube. Whitefang

Today I had one of the best practice sessions that I have had in a very long time. The tone was excellent, my picking articulation was way better than usual, and I was improvising lines that made me smile. I am an improvisor, you will never hear me play the same lines to a song, that you heard me play last time. It may be similar but not in the same order as the last time. I have a set of stock licks that I work off of. But these days I am trying to make it sing sweetly instead of playing a zillion notes (Although sometimes I slip in a few 32nd note runs)(old habits die very slowly ) Todays practice session was almost presentable.

Sadly, whenever I listen to any radio station that plays what's "new" I never hear anything worth my time. Maybe it's my curmudgeonly age. Whitefang

There are about 2 radio stations here that can be picked up with any quality. Both do a lot of very Texas music, one does more variety.

Well, I've only been to Texas once in my life and don't recall seeing many hills( worth mentioning anyway) Just a long stretch of road ahead of me distorted by heat waves. Whitefang
