I bet after this performance folks were wondering why they call that thing a "sweet" potato! Regardless of this guy's playing or not, I aways wondered how it got that name too. Ocarina. Whitefang

Maybe so, but the average ocarina is much smaller that the average sized sweet potatoes I've seen. And, did anyone ever take to calling it a YAM? And for an instant, since many ancient flutes, horns and such were fashioned from organic items(animal horns, gourds and such) I entertained the idea that the original ocarinas were actually made from sweet potatoes. But I could find nothing to support this. But I found this---- "The ocarina belongs to a very old family of instruments, believed to date back over 12,000 years.[2] Ocarina-type instruments have been of particular importance in Chinese and Mesoamerican cultures. For the Chinese, the instrument played an important role in their long history of song and dance. The ocarina has similar features to the Xun (塤), another important Chinese instrument (but is different in that Ocarina uses an internal duct, whereas Xun is blown across the outer edge).[3] In Japan, the traditional ocarina is known as the tsuchibue (kanji: 土笛; literally "earthen flute"), whereas "ocarina" comes from the Italian for "little goose". Different expeditions to Mesoamerica, including the one conducted by Cortés, resulted in the introduction of the ocarina to the courts of Europe. Both the Mayans and Aztecs produced versions of the ocarina, but it was the Aztecs who brought Europe the song and dance that accompanied the ocarina. The ocarina went on to become popular in European communities as a toy instrument."[1] Whitefang

So, are there any other instruments given food nicknames?
All I could think of was the calling a clarinet a "Licorice stick".

And by the way that thing he played should be called rhubarb or lemon ball. Just bad. Sometimes video and audio are true enemies.

? Really? Seemed pretty straightforward to me. I wonder if you're pulling my leg. But in case you're not, Lemme 'splain...... The preacher, unable to find and afford an organist to play at his services meets a guy who for a short while had taken a few piccolo lessons and offered to play at his services for free. After the first service was over, the preacher asked his flock to turn their hymnals to a certain hymn. The piccolo player begged off, saying he couldn't play that one. And did the same with the next few hymn choices. After this a disgusted congregate shouted "The piccolo player's a MO-FO!" (I cleaned it up, notice ) Not happy with this, the preacher asked who shouted that insult. When no response came he then asked progressively for the person or persons sitting next to the insult hurler to reveal their self when finally a person in the back of the church said, "I'm not the one who called the piccolo player a Mo-Fo." and that in fact he wasn't anyone sitting anywhere near the one who said it. But HIS query was, seeing as the piccolo player was unable to play anything he was asked to, was that who, "Called that Mo-Fo( the piccolo player) a PICCOLO PLAYER?" indicating the calling the guy a piccolo player was the worse infraction. Hope that helps. Whitefang
