Anybody heard the new Brother Ali disc?
I'm planning to pick that one up when I get back to the States. Brother Ali is a breath of fresh air in Hip Hop.

Jim - If you like blues (which I know that you do), check out the Brother Ali Youtube video of Uncle Sam, Goddamn. Now the song itself could strike you as a bit too militant and revolutionary , but the music is interesting. I think that it is probably the most convincing case that I have ever heard that Hip Hop has the power to take the blues and make it today's music.

I must admit I struggle to see the merit in hip hop but that is because I am an old fool. I must admit I quite liked the track that Jim posted above and I can see why that would appeal- there was a real chord sequence and a tune. I wasn't so keen on the rapping bit though and the drums grate on me after a while but then again, it is good that we like different things and long may that continue.

As my grandpappy said, "if everyone liked the same thing I do, they'd be married to my wife". ;D Actually, Rap to me is more of the shock value.

From the mouth of RAP:S GODFATHER's RUN-DMC, GRANDMASTER FLASH, PUBLIC ENEMY, MELLE MELL KRS 1 all say that RAP is todays INNER CITY BLUES. If ya listen to the REAL Rappers not the sex, gangsta rappers who degrade women etc..... Are talking about the problem in todays inner cities IMO TWO of the BEST and POLITICAL rap songs were 1.....PUBLIC ENEMY......FIGHT THE POWER 2....WAS A WHITE BAND RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE THE SONG WAS BULLS ON PARADE SO YES REAL RAP NOT GANGSTA RAP IS POLITICAL AND BLUES. JAMES ONE OTHER AGAIN PUBLIC ENEMY DON:T BELIEVE THE HYPE..... Agreed.

50 Cent
Lyrics like this?
Rapper 50 Cent releases the track "My Life", featuring Eminem and Adam Levine, as the new single from his fifth studio album "Street King Immortal" due in stores in 2013 via Interscope! Produced by Symbolyc One, "My Life" is a restrospective kind of song in which 50 and Eminem take turns at the rap verses, while Maroon 5's Adam Levine get in charge of the chorus. A high-budget video for "My Life" was filmed in Detroit. Send "My Life" Ringtone to your Cell
My life, my life Makes me wanna run away But there's no place to go, no place to go A lot of confusion, it's like illusion Like a movie, got nowhere to go Nowhere to run and hide, no matter how hard I try Yeah, OP I went from back filthy to filthy rich Man the emotions change so I can never trust a b-tch I tried to help n-ggas get on, they turned around and spit Right in my face, so Game and Buck, both can s-ck a d-ck Now when you hear 'em it may sound like it's some other sh-t Cause I'm ain't writing anymore, they not making hits I'm far from perfect, there's so many lessons I done learned If money is evil look at all the evil I done heard Im doing what im supposed to Im a writer, im a fighter, entrepeneur Fresh off the sewer, watch me manouver, what's it to you? The track I laced it, it's better than basic This is my recovery, my comeback in My life, my life Makes me wanna run away But there's no place to go, no place to go A lot of confusion, it's like illusion Like a movie, got nowhere to go Nowhere to run and hide, no matter how hard I try While you were sipping your own kool-aid getting your buzz heavy I was in the f-cking sheds sharpening my machete Sipping some of of that revenge juice, getting my taste buds ready To whoop down this spaghetti, or should I say this spaghett-even? I think you f-ck-ng meatballs keep on just forgetting Thought he was finished, m-therf-ck-r, it's only the beginning He's buggin' again, he's straight thuggin', f-ck who he's offending He'll rip your vocal chords out and have them b-tches plugged in me Motherf-cking wall with 3000 volts of electricity Now take the other and dump them then pluck him, m-therf-ck-rs in each One of your eyesockets cause I thought you might finally f-cking see That'll teach you to go voicing your c-cks-ckin' opinion to me I done put my blood, my sweat and my tears in this sh-t F-ck letting up, you’re gonna end up regretting you ever betted against me Feels like I'mma snap any minute, yeah, it's happening again I'm thinking about the same Motherf-ck everybody that's up in this b-tch, but 50! Cause this is all I know, this is why so hard I go I swear to God I put my heart and soul into this more than anybody knows I'm trapped, so all I do is rap, but everytime I rap I'm more trapped And I rap myself right into this bubble, oh oh, I guess it's bubble wrap This is like a vicious cycle, my life's in a crisis Christ, how was I supposed to know sh-t would turn up like it did? Feels like I'm going psycho again And I might just blow my lid Sh-t, I almost wish that I would have never made Recovery, kid Cause I'm running in circles with My life, my life Makes me wanna run away But there's no place to go, no place to go A lot of confusion, it's like illusion Like a movie, got nowhere to go Nowhere to run and hide, no matter how hard I try I haven't been this f-ck-ng confused since I was a kid Sold like 40 million records, people forgot what I did Maybe this is for me, maybe Maybe I'm supposed to go crazy Maybe I'll do it 3 AM in the morning like Shady Psycho killer, Michael Myers, I'm on fire like a lighter Tryna say the same classic, get your ass kicked Man crook, wrap your head up in plastic Pussy, now pick the casket, dirt nap with the maggots It's tragic, it's sad it's Never gonna end, now we number one again With that frown on your face, and your heart full of hate Accept it, respect it This a gift God gave me like the air in the lungs And every f-cking thing with it My life, my life Makes me wanna run away But there's no place to go, no place to go A lot of confusion, it's like illusion Like a movie, got nowhere to go Nowhere to run and hide, no matter how hard I try

For what it's worth, I have no personal interest and little respect for rap "artists."

Yeah, we've all got opinions! And that's mine, I just don't care to listen to atonal noise, with stupid rhyming schemes littered with debasing profanities. I've got better things to with my time, like learning to play guitar!
