Trying out my Fender Excelsior amp and lovin' it. Sometimes I'll just be using it as a guitar amp, but there will be other occasions where I'll want to use a mic with it. Any recommendations for what you think is the best mic. (preferably one that is still available for purchase.)

I just ordered a Shure SM58 - LCD mic, suggested retail price, $188, for $84 from hellomusic.com. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'd also endorse the Shure mics. Tough and great value and they are the standard by which others are measured. The 58, as Herb said, is mainly a vocal mic but I have used my spare at gigs for my guitar amp where I was getting a little lost. Mic placement is another art but you have to experiment though I'd suggest pointing it at the amp from fairly close slightly at an angle. Someone told me that a 57 is pretty much the same as a 58 except for the rounded end. The 57 tends to be the instrument mic but I have used each for instruments and vocals.
