OK...Nashville setup on a Tele
First you take a good Telecaster body, preferably ash, take out about half of the body to make room for more electronics, install a Strat pup in the center position, leaving the tele pups at the bridge and neck, put in a 5 position switch and there you have it = The Nashville Setup.
What do you think? Good or Bad?

If you want a stRAT, buy a stRAT. A Tele should be (once and always!) a Tele! It still is a tele with tele pups. Just an added strat pu in between.. But I tend to agree. Why?

I guess that today's country is almost 70's Rock and Roll. With that in mind, I guess you need a lot of the Strat sound. Guess one of the best guitar pickers In Nashville didn't get the message! Check out Brad Paisley's Teles

I had a 3rd pickup added to a Tele in '74. I bought the pickup at Sho-Bud and found a guy posted on their store BB to do the work. He also modded the original 3 way switch into a 5 way. There weren't any 5 ways available then from Fender or other. The Strat pickup was probably either a '50s or '60s. There were not aftermarket pickups per se then either. That Tele ('67) got a lot of attention from musicians and listeners.

Actually I rarely used the middle pickup by itself. The neck+middle and bridge+middle were the main used and for just about anything other than a more jazzy sound. Thing liked was still having the Tele bridge sound by itself as opposed to a Strat one. The body on the Tele already had a prior neck HB route so adding the single coil route wasn't too big a deal.
