Those guys are really into the crazy retro over the top stage clothes. Notice the amps in back as Fender Princeton Reverbs for guitars and probably a 1-15" Fender bassman for the bass all miked of course. Wish we got the RFD channel on our cable here to see his shows but many parts on "da tube".

I'm new here.......so overlook the fact that I'm bringing up older post. (I got a lot of catching up to do). I met Marty when he was playing mandolin with Doc Watson back in the 70s. Doc was playing a show in Greenville, NC.....my being a bluegrass flatpicker....it would have been "un-American" for me to have not gone to see him. Of course, Doc and Merle tore it up. I believe Michael T. Coleman was playing bass back then. And Marty hung right with them. He came out after the show and hung out with us for a while. Super nice guy and an excellent musician. He mentioned the fact that he had spent some time with Clarence & Roland White and that he loved playing electric.
Long story made short......I have always liked Marty and his music. AND I always knew he was good at it. However, I had never seen or heard this cut.
Holy Moly......that was awesome. I went "country" also in the late 80s and 90s. I always wondered how those monster guitar players could get all of those string bends in a tune. I almost ruined my left arm and wrist trying to copy those guys. I finally found that they were using that Parson-White string bender thing on their instruments. That made me feel a little better about my abilities but.....I do love the sound that Marty, Ray Flack, Jimmy Olander, and bunches of other pickers could get out of that string bender.
Thanks for posting this clip. I've watched it 4 times already.....and I'm seriously thinking about going out to the barn and getting my old Tele out of storage.....hehe
Later Steve

Glad you enjoyed it Steven and enjoyed reading of your encounter. Marty lives a few miles from where I live on same street as Johnny & June's former home was on Old Hickory Lake. We have "Marty sightings" here and there. I have quite a few of his CDS but yet to make it to his annual midnight jam at the Ryman.

I don't know whether you ever heard of a picker named Jerry Donahue.....he never gained that much notice. He was a danged good player and he did all kinds of string bends with just his hands. Here's a cut of him messing around with the old Jerry Reed tune - The Claw. Last one that you may enjoy. My favorite country guitarist from the 90s was Brent Mason. He did most all of the guitar work for Allen Jackson's records and was in demand a lot in Nashville as a studio/session guy. Always admired his tone and taste. Here's a video of him setting in with Mr. Vince Gill.....who is a right fair picker on his own. Brent takes a ride at the 2:50 mark.
