If you lost everything you own in a fire and the Insurance Company gave you a check for $5,000 (or 3,200 Pounds or 3,700 Euro) what would you buy and why?

A nice Gibson 339. A Telecaster and a nice Fender amp- not sure what model amp I'd get and cables and a few pedals.

If everything else was taken care of I'd get a fresh set of Suz Manji's, a Shure 585 mic, a cm powered bullet mic, and one big and one small vintage tube amp to be decided after shopping a while. I'd have to get a couple of chromatic harmonicas as well. A new harp delay pedal. A few voice/breathing/yoga lessons. Some more cool hats. What else would a harp player/singer ever need? What, no Basstracker? smiley-laughing024 smiley-eatdrink004 barmy

I'd find a different insurance company. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT SLAP !!!!!!! I would buy a BOX of Shot gun shells and head over to my insurance company's office !!!!! That does NOT cover my home built guitars or just the pick ups I have in a box waiting to be used.... But if it did..... just to play along...... 5 grand......Hmmmmm Probably an ES-225 all original or an ES-295 basically same thing....little bit different body style. JAMES

JAMES I think I would look hard at the Epihone ES Series. From what I've seen and tried, these are every bit as good or better than today's Gibson.

Probably a used Classic '50s or '60s Tele or Fret Tech versions, used Les Paul Special P90s Jr., a small 1x12 or 2x10 tube amp or 2, Ibanez Sage Concert Acoustic, maybe better speakers and tubes for amps, an echo delay box, some sort of Epi ES type or Achie type box. I'm up to $3,000-$3500 now so still have $1500-2K left. (I read Ms Cheaps columns in the Tennessean for inspiration.)
