I have had a red 339 with the 30-60 neck for about 3 years.I like it because of the size, the '57 classic p.up tone and the playing(fretting) ease. With mine, it seems that the volume has to be pretty high for the tone pots to be effective. This may be because of the special Memphis wiring.I don't "play out". I'm just an old man who likes to play the blues.

I have and love the 339. I also love 335's but for me, a 339 is more practical. The smaller body suits me fine and the jack socket on the lover bout is also an improvement as far as I am concerned. In terms of tone, there isn't a great deal in it and I say that having played it alongside a friend's mid sixties 335. Neither of us could detect a great deal of difference other than a slight difference in bottom end- he is a professional musician and one of the top rated session players in the UK.
Having said that, if you already have a 335 then why buy another guitar. If you were trying to decide which one then I would suggest a 339 for the reasons stated above.

In my previus reply to this thread, I guess I got off the suject. If I had a 335 I wouldn't have ever bought a 339.The reason that I chose the 339 over a 335 was because of the difference in price. At the time of my purchase, the 339 was less than $2000. new and the 335 was much more. Now Guitar Center and Musician's Friend have them listed at around $2500.After saying that, I'm very satisfied and pleased with my 339 and wouldn't trade it for a 335.I like everything about it except the tone and volume controls and I can live with them as they are.
