Since Poetrylover3 mentioned these, I thought it would be interesting for readers to post their favorite "OCJ" songs, albums or performers. Now this is a box set of the Complete Blue Note recordings of a person indelibly linked to Billie Holiday. Great! "nuff said"

That is indeed a fine and original group of recordings from someone who left us too soon.
I am curious about the comment of Nichols being "indelibly linked to Billy Holiday." I have never thought of him as being linked to Lady Day before, other than the fact that some of his music was used for the song "Lady Sings the Blues."

I have never thought of him as being linked to Lady Day before, other than the fact that some of his music was used for the song "Lady Sings the Blues." Apparently many think of Herbie in that context - Lady Sings The Blues. In this book, Mark Miller goes to great length to capture Herbie Nichol's desires to be his own man, but leaves the reader thinking that the only thing he will be remembered for is that one of his songs was retitled "Lady Sings The Blues". I guess that left to his own desires, he would have been a "Dixieland" Jazzist.
