How many guitars do you own? And what is the reason for each one?
I own(ed) 7 guitars (before I began giving them away to family). Each one had a "purpose" in life -
Martin D28 - Flatpicking and bluegrass. Tuned in standard tuning. Gibson J45 - Blues, Folk, fingerstyle and songwriting. Tuned in standard tuning. Harmony - Slide blues. Tuned in D (DADF#AD) or occasionally in G. Normally capoed up to E for bluegrass slide. Fender Telecaster - Rockabilly and occasionally to play a little flatpicking country music when I wanted to go amplified. Tuned in standard or Nashville high tuning. Grammer - gift from Billy Grammer and I still enjoy playing it fingerstyle and folk. Gibson Les Paul - Blues and Rock - Tuned in drop D Gibson L1 - Blues and Slide Blues - tuned in D Minor

I've got +/- 30 and the reason is, I love them, display them and consider them works of art. Most of them are from the 70's, but some earlier and some later and a couple custom builts. The vast majority have a natural finish rather than paint, because I love to see the grain in the wood.

Actually, that is a custom built Starcaster. I bought the used neck on ebay because it has 'Hoffman' on the headstock. It is a German built strat big headstock style and dimensions. I had Unorthodox Guitars in Fort Wayne build a Cherry Starcaster body, with the F holes, and had it thinned and rounded to suit me. It has the strat front jack and a Hipshot Baby Grand bridge. A single SD Jazzbucker PU, gives it a nice clarity and respondes well to the CTS tone poy. I played it for several years with 6V6 band. The pic is from the builder when it was new, it has aged nicely and the color is a warmer natural cherry with more of a reddish hue.

I've got about sixty-odd guitars, a plurality of them are Gibsons. (And several other stringed-things... a couple of banjos, a mandolin, a zither. (Still haven't learned to "zith" on it though! LOL) My oldest guitar is a 1928 (Stromberg-Voisinet), my newest is a 2000 Gibson J-185/12. Most, maybe 2/3, are acoustic. I don't really consider myself a "collector" because every one I bought I bought specifically to fit a style or genre I was into and wanted to play at that time. Some have gotten to be extremely valuable over the years, and some have not. I've never sold a guitar. (But I have given a few away to my kids (and other kids who wanted to play) and had two stolen (a 1968 Gibson SG double-neck and a 1962 Gibson LG-2).
My "main" acoustics are a 1934 Gibson "The Jumbo," a 1949 Gibson J-45 and a 1930 Gibson L-1. My main electrics (although I don't play much electric any more) are a 1971 Gibson ES-347 and a 1968 Gibson ES-175 FC.

Jim, once in a great while I'll still want to use an LP or a Fender (or even a Vox!), but I'm a confirmed hollow-guy electrically speaking! The sustain is tremendous, the rich overtones and natural overdrive (at higher volumes). I have four Gibson ES's (and an old Gretch Clipper and Harmony Rocket hollows which do have their place sometimes). But for me, there's nothing like the sound of a Gibson ES through some tubes-on-ten!

Man, is it nice to see people with the same problem I have. (at least that's what I hear)I think I have about 30 guitars now. Some in different tuning and string guages. Some I don't play and some get rotated around. My main ones would be,
Taylor T5 Gibson Les Paul Historic 58',57' Gibson ES 335 dot

Mine have just accumulated also and all are used a lot. I rotate for gigs according to mood, venue but are as fllows;
US Fender Strat-I've had it since I was 17- used for maybe 2 gigs out of 5 US Fender Precision- ditto-only used on bass gigs and recording Jap Fender Strat- 1960's r/i- used at home for practice (though I took it to a gig the other week just for a change) MIM Fender Tele-1950's r/i- used for most gigs. It accidentally became my favourite- tone heaven Gibson 339- used for the niver venues where there is no risk of hitting a wall or ceiling! Taylor 214e acoustic- used for acoustic songs in band set list and most of the open mics I do and solo acoustic gigs Taylor big baby acoustic- used mainly at home and for acoustic gig rehearsals Vintage 12 string acosutic- not used a lot but occasionally I drag her out
