I listened to this so much in the 70's when my children were young.
Perhaps one day they'll be in the R&R Hall of ?Fame

Kiss was the first rock band I was a fan of. I was very young at the time, and my cousin, who is a couple of years older than me, go me into them. The Destroyer cover used to scare me a bit though. smiley-laughing024
At some point, they were no longer my favorite band, but I still enjoy their music.

I'll always have a sentimental attachment to there music. I grew up to there music in the mid 1970's. It's strange to this day that classic rock stations pretty much ignore there music with the exception of "Rock N Roll All Night".

This should be a better direct link to that article. www.rollingstone.com/music/news/kiss-paul-stanley-says-ace-frehley-threw-away-incredible-potential-20140303Quotes like this from the author kinda piss me off. "Now, in a new interview with Guitar World, vocalist-guitarist Paul Stanley has derided Frehley's talent." But what they quote has Paul saying. "What we had at the beginning was magical. . . Ace and I played great together," Stanley said. "But in my mind it's a crime what Ace did: He threw away incredible potential and talent. The Ace I played with when the band first started out was a comet – and not [Frehley's late-Eighties band] 'Frehley's Comet!' But he was burning bright and really had the ability – and this would rub him the wrong way – to be a real contender. But he stopped practicing. He got involved with a whole lot of things that really diluted and diminished his craft. I saw that comet grow dim." IOW, he thinks Ace was great, but threw it away, probably by ignoring his instrument, partying, and drugs. I think if someone says you wasted your potential, they're not "deriding [your] talent," they're lamenting that you didn't use it and do something great with it. It may be backhanded, but I see it as a compliment. [/rant]

I've never really listened to them or encountered them. I'm afraid I have allowed the image to colour my views. I am not a fan of the dressing up type thing and I have probably missed out as a result as I know a few people who love this band.

You know, I was never much of a fan of Kiss. What I find most interesting about Kiss today is that thirty or thirty-five years after they stopped being a real force in music, you still see fifteen year old kids wearing their t-shirts and knowing all the lyrics to all of the kiss songs. A large part of that is, no doubt, due to Gene Simmons unceasing selling of the product. That being said, it's still pretty astounding that they're relevant to today's music fans.

Speaking of Gene Simmons, he was the real intelligent one of the group. Invested well, kept his sense as they hit their peak, and stayed clear of the Frehley/Criss issues.

I always thought it was interesting that Paul avoided being on Gene's reality show. Even when they showed Kiss in concert, Paul was rarely in the shot. When they did a big party for Gene (I think it was his birthday), Paul made a point that he was there on the show for Gene.
Gene was clearly shown as a big marketer. His office is filled with Kiss merchandise.
One disappointment I had was that I liked that each person had their own character, but after the reunion of the original four and then Ace and Peter were gone, the new guys became their characters instead of creating new ones.
