I happened to see this posted on another forum and I thought it could possibly work here. I'll get the ball rolling:

The Complete Count Basie Live at the Lincoln Hotel - 1944. (A motherlode of Count Basie with Lester Young that I would give anything for)

Tom: I agree that the Terry Gibbs Dream Band Contemporary recordings would be nice to have all in one place. But they have been all issued on individual CD's. Probably same with the Mitchell Riversides (I think).

Warne Marsh: The Complete Revelation Recordings: 1969-1972 That would consist of one issued disc (Ne Plus Ultra) and about 6 discs of previously unissued material (all listed in the On-line Warne Marsh discography)

And of course
The Complete Bill Savory Recordings (The huge stash of recordings from the 30s and 40s of Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, etc. under lock and key because of fears due to US copyright laws.)
While we are at it, we might also release
The John Coltrane Quintet with Wes Montgomery: Complete Recordings (California, 1961)

The John Coltrane Quintet with Wes Montgomery: Complete Recordings (California, 1961) This gets my vote. While we are wishing, let's just get the complete recorded works of 1. Wes Montgomery 2. Charlie Christian 3. Django Rheinhart smiley-music021

I'm not certain if all his recordings are still in print but how about a box set dedicated to Lee Morgan's 1960's sessions on Blue Note?

This is the thread I was looking for, thank you. This morning I decided to digitalize my Charlie Christian box sets. I have two, one released in 2000 and the other in 2001 on the obscure (to me at least) Definitive Records label and both out of print. Am I glad I grabbed them when they were available! See, I first heard Charlie Christian 40 years ago, when I was 19, and even though the list of jazz guitar players I usually enjoy are more modern ones, some of them still with us, like for instance Kenny Burrell, Charlie Christian always was a favorite of mine up there with Django Reinhardt, Joe Pass and René Thomas. My problem was : what to get with all the Charlie Christian comps out there? I had that one yellow LP that I must have since given to my brother, a blues guitar player but he used to play jazz back when we both were in our 20's, but I wanted everything. My dream came true when these box sets were released! These two 4 Cds sets are simply called "Complete Studio Recordings" and "Complete Live Recordings". One thing I do appreciate on the former is that, while having tried to respect a chronological order, the compiler(s) was attentionate enough to put all the alternates on CD 4 instead of lining them all in a row, which makes for a more enjoyable listening pleasure to me as I generally have a hard time listening to the same song 3 or 4 times in a row, no matter how great the different takes or how different the solos on them. Despite the 24 bit resolution on both these sets, some of the tracks are a bit scratchy, but that doesn't affect my listening pleasure. Charlie was a genius, and he never fails to put a smile on this dude's face. BTW, while looking for the above pictures online, I found that JSP have also released a couple of 4 CDs sets with the same recordings. These might still be available, I don't know.

Not really a box set, rather a series released throught the years by the French Frémeaux & Associés label that I've bought, one by one, is the complete Django Reinhardt that includes his stints as a rhytm guitar player behind French pop and musette singers. While I'm not a huge fan of musette myself, all his jazz tracks on this collection is a must have if you dig Django's music. 20 volumes, all al them double CDs, that's a lot of Django for sure (40 CDs!), but hey, who's counting? After I got the whole series, Frémeaux re-released the entire collection as 3 Box sets called Season 1 (14 CDs), 2 (14 CDs) and 3 (12 CDs). They don't come cheap, but they're worth every (insert your own currency here) you'll spend on them!

I would love to see a box set of some of the great jazz instrumental solos, everything from Charlie Parker to Charlie Christian.

I was reading through some Library of Congress literature on jazz and find the Jelly Roll Morton recordings.
Have these ever been issued as a box set?

The Complete Studio Recordings of Lennie Tristano. Mosaic evidently thought of trying to do this at one point, but the licensing issues were unresolvable, which is why they put out the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Atlantic box-set instead. (Quite an excellent collection.)

I'm surprised to see that Mosaic hasn't released a Mosaic Select series of the recordings of Freddie Roach. His recordings are hard to come by these days at an affordable price.
